Job Summary

The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing forklifts and other material handling equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations. The role involves preventive maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Forklift Operation & Driving: Safely operate and drive forklifts during testing, diagnostics, and post-repair validation, move forklifts to and from maintenance areas as required, and conduct functional and performance tests by driving forklifts after servicing or repairs, also ensuring forklift operation complies with safety rules and site traffic regulations.
• Preventive Maintenance: Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and scheduled preventive maintenance on forklifts and material handling equipment, and identify potential faults early and take corrective actions to prevent breakdowns.
• Corrective Repairs & Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults, repair or replace defective components to restore equipment functionality, and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize operational downtime.
• Safety & Compliance: Conduct safety checks and pre-operational inspections before and after repairs, ensure forklifts meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards, and comply with company policies, occupational health and safety regulations, and best practices.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and test runs, update service logs, and submit maintenance reports as required.
• Spare Parts & Tools Management: Identify spare parts requirements and recommend replacements, and ensure proper use, care, and storage of tools and maintenance equipment.
• Operational Support & Collaboration: Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to schedule maintenance activities, and support equipment installation, commissioning, and operator guidance when necessary.

The Person

• Technical certification or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
• Proven 3 – 5 years of experience as a Forklift Mechanic or in heavy equipment/industrial machinery maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service diagrams.
• Good problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting.
• Awareness of workplace safety standards and procedures.
• Physical ability to perform manual tasks and work in industrial environments.

Valid forklift or technical trade certification (an added advantage).
