Farm Superintendent at IITA - International Institute of Tropical Agriculture

Description

• Supervise, train, and mentor farm personnel, including technicians, laborers, and support staff.
• Coordinate research activities and field trials with researchers and other relevant stakeholders.
• Maintain effective communication with research staff and management, ensuring farm activities align with research objectives.
• Oversee crop production, including planting, irrigation, pest and disease management, and harvesting.
• Sustainably manage fields, including practices that improve soil fertility and minimize soil degradation.
• Facilitate research activities by providing logistical support, resources, and necessary infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate records of farm activities, research trials, and resource utilization.
• Ensure proper farm infrastructure maintenance and repair, including buildings, irrigation systems, and research facilities.
• Oversee the maintenance and safe operation of farm machinery and equipment.
• Develop and manage the farm's annual budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
• Prepare regular progress reports and updates on farm operations for the Head of Farm Management and relevant stakeholders;
• Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the Head of the Unit.

QUALIFICATION:

• Master’s in agriculture, Plant Science, Agronomy or related field with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment.
