Weatherford have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Ethics & Compliance Counsel for Sub-Saharan Africa. Based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, this role is a unique chance to join a successful and dynamic team working in a vibrant environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Senior Compliance Counsel in EUA with the development, management, and execution of compliance integration efforts relating to compliance issues for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Assists the Senior Compliance Counsel in EUA with internal compliance investigations and implementation of accompanying remediation and discipline.
Advises on areas of compliance vulnerability and risks through formal training as well as day-to-day advice and counsel.
Assists with the execution of compliance due diligence procedures relating to proposed third-party intermediaries, vendors, joint ventures, and M&A.
Monitors external developments in compliance, including laws/regulations, government investigations, and industry best practices.
Participates in compliance related projects, as needed.
Understands and complies with all safety rules and company policies of the business.
Performs various other and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
Experience
University Law degree or Compliance Certification is preferred.
Minimum of 5-8 years of practicing experience.
Legal experience in the oilfield service industry is strongly preferred.
Some knowledge of trade (export and sanctions) is a plus, but not required.
Ability to speak French or Portuguese would be advantageous but not essential.
Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of antibribery and corruption regulations, including, but not limited to the FCPA and UKBA.
Knowledge of legal issues regarding conflicts of interest and antitrust matters.
Experience advising internal clients on gifts, travel, donations, and entertainment policies.
Expert English language communication skills (both oral and written).
Strong ability to write investigation reports in English with minimal coaching or editing.
Excellent organizational skills and presentation skills.
Ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters and exercise sound discretion and judgment.
Capable of working independently, assuming responsibility, and being a self-starter.
Ability to travel up to 30-40% of the time mainly within Sub Sahara Africa (Nigeria, Angola, Namibia, Congo, Cameroon).
Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals in addressing complex issues.
