Enterprise Server Admin (Unix) at Wema Bank Plc

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Enterprise Server (Unix), Backup, and Storage Administrator to join our Infrastructure Team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, installation, configuration, maintenance, security, and performance optimization of the Bank’s critical Unix-based environments, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability. In addition, this role encompasses the administration and management of enterprise backup and storage systems, including capacity planning, system upgrades, complex issue resolution, and the provision of advanced technical expertise and guidance to ensure seamless infrastructure operations

Job Details

• System Management: Install, configure, maintain, and secure IBM AIX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
• Virtualization: Administer PowerVM technologies, including LPARs, VIO servers, NPIV, vSCSI, and Shared Storage Pools.
• Storage & Networking: Configure and manage SAN/NAS storage and complex network environments, including bonding, VLANs, and firewall rules.
• Performance & Tuning: Monitor system performance, perform root cause analysis, and implement advanced tuning and capacity planning strategies.
• Patching & Upgrades: Plan, test, and execute OS patching, firmware updates, and major version migrations in line with change management processes.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure systems adhere to security hardening, auditing, and compliance standards, collaborating with InfoSec and Internal Audit teams for vulnerability management and remediation.
• Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts (Shell, Perl, Python, Ansible) to streamline operations and improve efficiency.
• Backup & Recovery: Implement, manage, and test backup and disaster recovery solutions such as Spectrum Protect and mksysb.
• Red Hat Ecosystem Management: Administer Red Hat Satellite Server for centralized patching, lifecycle management, and content synchronization. 
• Systems Monitoring & Support: Monitor system health, logs, and performance metrics to ensure uptime and stability. Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for Linux-based systems and collaborate with application teams to resolve incidents promptly.
• Subscription & Licensing Management: Manage and allocate Red Hat subscriptions via the Customer Portal and Satellite, ensuring license compliance and tracking entitlements across RHEL deployments.

Backup and Storage Administration:

• Manage and maintain enterprise backup and storage systems to ensure data integrity, availability, and recoverability. 
• Implement and monitor backup policies, schedules, and retention strategies in line with business and compliance requirements. 
• Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and system upgrades to optimize storage utilization and reliability. 
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex backup and recovery issues while ensuring adherence to disaster recovery and business continuity standards.

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 3+ years of experience as a Unix System Administrator (AIX and/or RHEL) in an enterprise environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with IBM AIX OS, PowerVM, VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) administration, and NIM (Network Installation Manager).
• Hardware Expertise: In-depth knowledge of IBM Power Systems hardware (e.g., E980) and related infrastructure components.
• Networking: Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, and advanced network configuration within Unix environments.
• Storage Management: Proven experience configuring and managing enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS), including multipathing (MPIO) and LUN management.
• Backup & Recovery: Practical experience with enterprise backup solutions, backup scheduling, monitoring and restoration testing.
• Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in shell scripting (Korn shell, Bash) and familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible for system administration and monitoring.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Certifications: IBM Certified System Administrator – AIX (Version 7 or 7.2/7.3) (or equivalent).
• ITIL: Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) and ITIL processes.
