In addition to delivering infrastructure projects, this role requires strong consulting expertise, the ability to translate complex technical insights into actionable strategies for clients, management of multi-stakeholder engagements, and assurance of value-driven outcomes in line with client needs.

The Team Lead will draw on extensive consulting and infrastructure experience to advise governments, regulators, private developers, and donors, while ensuring all projects align with energy transition goals, ESG standards, and investment viability. This role combines technical leadership, client-facing advisory, and team management, positioning the Infrastructure Team Lead as a trusted partner in shaping Africa’s energy future.

    Job Responsibilities

    Strategic Leadership and Team Management

    1. Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary infrastructure team to deliver high-quality outputs within scope, time, and budget.
    2. Provide strategic direction and allocate resources across multiple concurrent infrastructure projects.
    3. Build internal technical capacity by coaching junior consultants and analysts.
    4. Drive innovation by fostering the adoption of emerging energy technologies and advanced modelling tools.

    Technical Advisory and Project Oversight

    1. Oversee feasibility studies, regulatory analyses, and integrated resource planning (IRP) aligned with national and state energy transition strategies.
    2. Provide expert guidance on market design, tariff structures, and licensing frameworks.
    3. Review and validate technical deliverables, including proposals, reports, models, and investment briefs.
    4. Ensure robust application of ESG principles, sustainability frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies in all infrastructure projects.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Business Development

    1. Serve as the primary liaison for senior government officials, regulators, utilities, investors, and development partners.
    2. Design and lead multi-stakeholder consultations, workshops, and investment forums to build consensus and catalyse partnerships.
    3. Support business development through proposal leadership, client relationship management, and representation of Nextier in high-level forums.
    4. Position Nextier as a thought leader in Africa’s energy transition by contributing to publications, panels, and policy dialogues.

    Compliance, Reporting and Quality Assurance

    1. Ensure project documentation, reporting, and knowledge products meet international standards and donor expectations.
    2. Oversee compliance with legal, regulatory, and donor frameworks across all projects.
    3. Monitor project progress, flag risks, and provide corrective direction to ensure strategic objectives are achieved.

    Role Requirements

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Energy Policy, or a related discipline.
    2. A Master’s degree in Energy, Infrastructure, or Development Studies is strongly preferred.
    3. Minimum of 10 years in energy infrastructure, consulting, or related fields, with at least 5 years in leadership or team management roles.
    4. Demonstrated experience working in a consulting firm or advisory environment, with proven ability to manage client relationships, deliver value-added insights, and oversee multiple engagements simultaneously.
    5. Strong track record managing complex, multi-stakeholder energy projects (generation, transmission, distribution, renewable systems).
    6. Proven expertise in energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and financing mechanisms.
    7. Strong grasp of energy systems and technologies (renewables, grids, storage, distributed generation).
    8. Advanced understanding of IRP, power markets, and energy transition strategies.
    9. Familiarity with emerging technologies such as green hydrogen, smart grids, and large-scale storage.
    10. Exceptional leadership, mentorship, and people management skills.
