We are seeking a highly competent, experienced, and results-driven Electrical Engineer to join our growing construction and property development team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, planning, installation, supervision, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems across residential, commercial, and large-scale property development projects.
The ideal candidate must possess strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering systems, construction practices, power distribution, lighting, backup power systems, and electrical installations. Experience handling large-scale residential estates, commercial developments, high-rise buildings, or major construction projects will be a strong advantage.
Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & Engineering
- Prepare and review electrical designs, drawings, layouts, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Design and supervise electrical power distribution systems for residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
- Prepare electrical load calculations and determine appropriate electrical capacity requirements.
- Design and coordinate low-voltage and, where applicable, medium-voltage electrical systems.
- Prepare electrical layouts for lighting, power outlets, distribution boards, panel boards, cabling, earthing, and other electrical installations.
- Review electrical drawings and ensure coordination with architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, and other engineering designs.
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, regulations, and project specifications.
- Recommend suitable electrical materials, equipment, systems, and technologies for project requirements.
Site Supervision & Installation
- Supervise electrical installations and ensure all works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Monitor electrical contractors, subcontractors, technicians, and other site personnel.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify the quality and progress of electrical works.
- Ensure proper installation of conduits, cables, trunking, cable trays, distribution boards, switchgear, lighting fixtures, sockets, and other electrical components.
- Verify that electrical works are properly coordinated with civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and plumbing works.
- Identify installation errors, defects, and technical issues and ensure timely corrective action.
- Monitor electrical works against approved project schedules and report delays or potential risks.
Power & Backup Systems
- Plan and supervise the installation and maintenance of generators, transformers, inverters, UPS systems, and other backup power solutions.
- Coordinate electrical requirements for generator and transformer installations.
- Supervise installation of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), synchronisation systems, control panels, and related equipment where applicable.
- Review and monitor electrical power consumption and recommend energy-efficient solutions.
- Support the integration of renewable and alternative energy systems, including solar power systems where required.
Testing, Commissioning & Quality Control
- Conduct and supervise electrical testing and commissioning activities.
- Ensure proper testing of cables, circuits, insulation resistance, earthing systems, protective devices, and electrical equipment.
- Verify that completed electrical installations are safe, functional, and compliant with project requirements.
- Prepare testing, inspection, and commissioning reports.
- Ensure all defects and snags are identified and rectified before project handover.
- Participate in project inspections, handover processes, and final acceptance of electrical installations.
Project Coordination & Reporting
- Work closely with Project Managers, Architects, Structural Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Contractors, and other consultants.
- Attend project coordination, technical, and site meetings.
- Provide technical advice and solutions to electrical engineering challenges.
- Review shop drawings, material submittals, technical proposals, and method statements.
- Prepare work schedules and monitor electrical project progress.
- Prepare periodic technical and progress reports for management.
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimisation without compromising quality or safety.
Maintenance & Safety
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance plans for electrical systems where required.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures and applicable health and safety standards.
- Identify electrical hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
- Ensure proper grounding, earthing, and electrical protection systems are installed.
- Investigate electrical faults and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years' relevant professional experience in electrical engineering, construction, or property development.
- Candidates with 12+ years' experience will be strongly preferred for senior project assignments.
- Membership or registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) is highly desirable.
- Membership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is an added advantage.
- Proven experience working on residential, commercial, mixed-use, estate development, or major construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical installation, power distribution, lighting systems, cabling, earthing, and protection systems.
- Experience with generators, transformers, ATS, inverters, UPS, and other power and backup systems.
- Knowledge of solar and renewable energy systems will be an added advantage.
- Ability to read, interpret, prepare, and review electrical drawings and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and design software, including AutoCAD and other electrical design tools.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and construction practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to supervise teams, contractors, and subcontractors effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
