Driver (Retainer) at UNOPS

Job Specific Information 

Under the guidance and supervision of the Support Services Senior Associate, the Driver provides reliable and safe driving services for the transport of authorized personnel. The Driver has a client-oriented approach, a high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

The Driver will be issued a Retainer Contract (i.e the services of the Driver will be required intermittently either for a short/long term assignments as and when the need arises).

Summary of functions:

Within the limits of delegated authority and depending on location,  his/her duties include:

• Provides reliable and secure driving services by a) driving vehicles safely for the transport of authorized personnel and, in the case of construction (Infrastructure) for the transport of logistics and/or project equipment etc; b) collecting and delivering mail, documents and other items; and c) meeting official personnel at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.
• Ensures proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, and provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
• Ensures the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle by checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tyres, etc.; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; and ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean.
• Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts.
• Ensures that immediate steps as required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.

Education

• Completion of Secondary School is required.
• A Diploma or certification in administration-related subjects or Business Administration would be an asset.
• A Driver Training Certification with a Valid Driver's license is required.

Work Experience 

• A minimum of 2 years of driving experience at the national level is required. 
• A minimum of one year UN experience is desirable.
• Safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair is a distinct advantage.
• Driving experience in North-East Nigeria will be an asset.
• Experience in computer/office productivity software will be an asset.

 Language Requirement

• Fluency in written, reading and spoken English is required.
