    Driver

    Job Description

    • We offer a post of Driver, under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation.
    • Upon recruitment, the successful candidate will occupy a specific job function as Driver.
    • This job function may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Delegation.
    • Under this job function, the successful candidate will serve as technical and support staff to under the supervision and responsibility of the relevant Head of Section. 
    • The candidate, Local Agent LA5 will work full time (37.5 hours weekly) in a multicultural and multinational environment at the premises of the EU Delegation in Abuja, Nigeria.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Medically fit to perform the required duties;
    • Enjoys civil rights and permits for employment under the Nigerian labour law;
    • Satisfactory knowledge of  English
    • Lower secondary education in a relevant field and minimum of 3 year in performing driver’s related tasks. Thorough knowledge of secretarial tasks.
    • We expect a candidate with deep understanding and experience of Drivers responsibilities, with high level of personal integrity, able to work under strict deadlines and able to cope with a significant workload such as;
    • Drive for the Delegation’s staff and visitors as per assignment in a safe and law-abiding manner to ensure passenger safety and vehicle longevity;
    • Clean, maintain and repair the vehicles placed under his/her responsibility;
    • Control the level of fuel, engine oil, radiator water, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc.;
    • Tackle the car registration formalities;
    • Update the car documents, notably the vehicle logbook;
    • Deliver the messages, mail, diplomatic pouch, etc.
    • Assist in the customs clearance procedures when requested;
    • Throughout knowledge of driving and mechanics;
    • Familiarity with the location of major buildings (Embassies, Ministries, International Organisations, etc.);
    • Sense of initiative, organisation, responsibility, punctuality and discretion;
    • Capability to execute tasks in a timely and efficient manner, even when working under pressure and while respecting the driving laws;
    • Good physical condition (a yearly medical check-up is obligatory);
    • Knowledge of IT tools - Microsoft Office
    • Self- motivated, proactive, ability to work in a multicultural environment, both in team and/or alone, respect for the deadlines, ability to deal with stressing situations and to work under tight deadlines, performing well under pressure;
    • Communicate clearly and courteously, both with internal and external contacts;
    • Work in a multicultural team, showing good interpersonal skills;
    • Any other task assigned by the Head of Administration.

    The following will be considered an asset:

    • A diploma in mechanics would be an asset;
    • A diploma of defence driving
    • An armoured vehicle driving certificate 
    • Previous experience in a Diplomatic Mission
    • Working level knowledge of French language

    Benefits

    • Pension scheme and medical insurance, are offered to employees and their families under certain conditions.
    • NGN 456,720 per month. This Gross basic salary will be raised in accordance with the current salary scale, depending on years of relevant professional experience.
