    Drilling & Blasting Engineer

    Job Summary

    • The Drilling and Blasting Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, monitoring, and optimizing drilling and blasting operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective ore extraction. 
    • The role involves working closely with mining operations, geology, and safety teams to achieve production targets while adhering to regulatory and environmental guidelines.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and develop optimal drilling and blasting patterns for both surface and/or underground mining operations.
    • Supervise and monitor drilling and blasting activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
    • Conduct blast performance analysis and implement improvements based on blast outcomes (fragmentation, vibration, dilution, etc.).
    • Coordinate with geology and operations teams to align blasting plans with ore body geometry and mining schedules.
    • Prepare and maintain blasting reports, logs, and regulatory documentation.
    • Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of explosives in compliance with statutory regulations.
    • Liaise with explosive suppliers and contractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery of blasting materials.
    • Implement cost control measures and contribute to the reduction of drilling and blasting-related costs.
    • Monitor environmental impacts including ground vibrations, air blast, and fly rock, and take corrective actions as necessary.
    • Train and mentor junior staff and operators on best practices in drilling and blasting.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technologies, equipment, and innovations.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related fields
    • 3–5 years of experience in drilling and blasting operations, preferably in the mining industry.
    • Valid Blaster’s Certificate of Competency (as per regulatory requirements).
    • In-depth knowledge of explosive materials, initiation systems, and blasting techniques.
    • Proficient in blast design software (e.g., BlastIQ, SHOTPlus, or equivalent).
    • Strong understanding of mine planning and geology.
    • Good communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
    • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
