    Director of Academic Planning

    Overall Function

    • As the Director of Academic Planning you will lead the planning, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of curriculum and program development; provide consultative oversight on special projects, ensure institutional effectiveness, and assessment practices.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Plan and coordinate academic planning and assessment goals in alignment with the University’s strategic goals.
    • Develop and lead the implementation and evaluation of all faculty strategic plans.
    • Support faculty planning and resource development, and to coordinate the engagement and delivery of the academic priorities across all Faculties and Schools.
    • In consultation and coordination with the Deans, lead on developing plans/business cases for the investment / disinvestment of faculty strategies.
    • Develop and implement new program ideas for future curriculum development; plan and provide one-on-one, small and large group training sessions pertaining to assessment and continuous improvement principles.
    • Lead on continuous improvement strategies that support positive student outcomes, support retention, innovative assessments and ensures effective monitoring, reporting and improvements.
    • Lead senior academic and administrative management personnel in the achievement of Miva’ strategic objectives through learning and teaching, research and knowledge transfer and academic leadership and management.
    • Ensure academic excellence through strategic planning and assessment of individual and faculty performance targets, carrying out staff performance reviews and proactively addressing and resolving performance and conduct concerns.
    • Contribute to performance improvements against institutional KPIs and faculty benchmark standards.
    • Disseminate information about developments within the university through newsletters, seminars/ briefings, faculty website and other communication channels.
    • Represent various faculties and ensure actionable tasks are carried out by key personnel and chair appropriate Faculty and University committees (including appropriate working groups).
    • Promote the effective and efficient implementation of policies approved by the Governing Council.
    • Develop well-researched proposals, policies, plans and presentations to the Governing Council
    • Liaise with appropriate government agencies and bodies.
    • Manage compliance with academic guidelines as stipulated in the National Universities Commission Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards.
    • Liaise with various tertiary institutions as the University’s representative on all partnership/collaboration agreements.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Ph.D. in a relevant course of study.
    • Minimum of twelve years of postgraduate experience, with five years prior experience in a management position.
    • Previous experience in a similar role will be an advantage
    • Technical knowledge of tertiary institution policies and guidelines affecting/impacting curriculum development and applicable laws.
    • Strong knowledge of assessment and learning outcomes sufficient to enhance a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Demonstrated experience analyzing course material to determine essential content components and write behavior objectives and course descriptions.
    • Previous experience developing business plans, implementation and monitoring of their achievement.
    • Proven experience in budget planning and implementation.
    • Ability to display a comprehensive awareness and understanding of local and international collaborations with tertiary institutions.
    • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills with a flexible approach to working and receptive to change.
    • Ability to lead, motivate and manage academic groups and stakeholders.
