    Consultant Cardiologist

    Department: Medical Consultants

    Reports to:  Chief Medical Director and Chief Operations Officer.

    Slots: 2 Openings

    Summary of Job

    • The ideal candidate must be a cardiologist
    • He/she must be a team player willing to work with our team of medical professionals
    • He/she will work with patients to provide a full range of cardiology and internal medicine services
    • He/she will perform various tests, make diagnoses, provide treatment plans and work with other physicians and surgeons to treat cardiovascular disorders
    • He/she must be willing to make important decisions regarding patients' care and be emotionally resilient in challenging medical situations via inhouse/out-door health workshops, seminars, and forum occasionally
    • He/she must have ability to work and collaborate with others, in a complex and diverse environment, with the use of world-class technological advanced medical equipment’s/ software’s

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Consulting with patients to understand their symptoms and health concerns.
    • Prescribing tests, treatments, and/or surgery, when necessary.
    • Maintaining detailed notes of appointments with patients, including comments, tests and/or treatments prescribed, and test results using the EMR.
    • Performing tests, when needed, to check the health of patients' hearts and/or cardiovascular systems.
    • Interpreting test results to determine how effectively the heart and/or cardiovascular system is functioning.
    • Using medical imaging equipment, such as Echocardiogram, to diagnose and treat heart and/or cardiovascular conditions.
    • Assisting and/or performing surgery which may include complex surgical interventions that require a team of medical professionals.
    • Prescribing medication to treat heart and/or cardiovascular disease.
    • Providing support and advice to patients receiving long-term care.
    • Training and providing educational support to junior staff, when necessary.
    • Ensure continuing education, training and development is undertaken to meet clinical governance guidelines for Continuing Professional Development and a Personal Development Plan.  
    • Maintains professional kknowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
    • Be caring, compassionate and professional at all times.
    • Manage clinical risk.
    • Keep up to date with relevant medical research, technology, and evidence-based medical practice by attending continuing education courses and professional meetings, reading journals, etc.
    • Perform a variety of research and analysis tasks associated with improvement of clinical care, medical diagnosis, and treatment where appropriate.
    • Audit of clinical practice and review of relevant literature.  
    • Research unusual symptoms and treatment options, through consultation with physicians and other medical specialists.
    • Provide literature reviews and the like; review, analyze and determine the significance of a variety of diagnostic test results

    Qualifications & Training

    • MBBS
    • At least 1 to 5 years’ internship and clinical residency training, specializing in cardiology.

    Must be certified by The West African College of Physician (FWACP) or The National Post Graduate Medical College of Physicians of Nigeria (FMCP), in internal medicine, Cardiology and /or a sub specialty, such as cardiovascular disease, or interventional cardiology is an advantage.

    • Flexible working hours.

    Work Experience: A minimum of 7 years as a medical doctor and 1 year (post fellowship qualification) as a cardiologist consultant.

    Must be experienced in:

    • Quality centered patient care: Ability to be empathic, compassionate, dedicated and diligent in patient care.
    • Must be focused, very detailed and be creative in making a decision.
    • Must be physically and mentally stable to handle extended shifts as well as mental pressure and traumatic events from all kinds of patients.
    • Must be able to review, analyze and respond to different situations they encounter daily.
    • Must be able to think critically in adapting to change, judging situations and taking appropriate decisions.
    • Excellent use of Electronic Medical Record.

    Professional Development:

    • LECC requires all staff to keep their knowledge and skills up to date
    • She/he is expected to continue to learn throughout their career at LECC through continuing professional development (CPD). The professional body relating to specialist areas will have information on the type of CPD to be carried out and how much should be completed each year.

    Competitive salary scale based on improvements from the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures as well as surveys from top private hospitals in Nigeria.
