    Civil Foreman (Road / Highway Construction)

     

    Job Summary

    • The Civil Foreman is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and execution of on-site road and highway construction activities.
    • The role involves managing construction workers, assigning tasks, and providing continuous guidance to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with engineering specifications, project plans, schedules, and quality standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities on site.
    • Manage construction workers, skilled labor, and artisans.
    • Delegate tasks clearly and provide technical guidance as required.
    • Ensure adequate manpower and resources are available for planned activities.
    • Execute road and highway construction works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and method statements.
    • Monitor workmanship and productivity to ensure quality and efficiency.
    • Ensure works are completed within set timelines and construction sequences.
    • Identify site challenges and promptly report issues to the Site/Resident Engineer.
    • Ensure all site works meet required quality standards and specifications.
    • Carry out first-line quality checks before formal inspections.
    • Ensure materials and workmanship conform to approved standards.
    • Support QA/QC inspections and rectify identified defects promptly.
    • Enforce site safety rules, procedures, and toolbox talks.
    • Ensure all works are carried out safely and in compliance with HSE requirements.
    • Identify unsafe practices and take immediate corrective action.
    • Maintain a safe and orderly work environment at all times.
    • Coordinate daily activities with engineers, surveyors, and QA/QC personnel.
    • Communicate work instructions, safety requirements, and quality expectations to workers.
    • Provide daily feedback on work progress and challenges.
    • Record daily site activities, manpower deployment, and work progress.
    • Assist in preparation of daily work reports and site records.
    • Support measurement and verification of completed works.

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Trade certification, OND, or equivalent practical qualification in Civil Engineering or Construction.
    • 15–20 years’ experience in road and highway construction works.
    • Proven hands-on experience supervising large site crews on highway projects.
    • Strong understanding of road construction methods and standards.
    • Strong leadership and people management skills.
    • Excellent practical knowledge of road and highway construction activities.
    • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings.
    • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
    • Good communication and coordination skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure in site environments.
