About the job

The cinematographer must understand video production well, including reading scripts, video editing, and camera operation for recording live events and small-scale video productions like documentaries, live events, short films, legal depositions, weddings, birthday parties, sports events, commercials, and training videos.

To be successful as a cinematographer, you should be detail-oriented and demonstrate good creative intelligence, including:

• Creative visual skills.
• Good knowledge of camera and lighting equipment and technologies.
• An interest in photography, film, and digital video.
• Good communication skills.
• The ability to give instructions clearly and accurately.
• Manipulate and edit film pieces in a way that is invisible to the audience
• Take a brief to grasp the production team’s needs and specifications
• Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes’ value and contribution to continuity
• Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of the film
• Input music, dialogues, graphics, and effects
• Create rough and final cuts
• Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running
• Consult with stakeholders from production to the post-production process
