    Chief Security Officer

    Job Responsibilities

    •  Preparation of unit's budget;
    • Taking charge of the welfare of the unit's formulation of security regulations and guidelines for the Polytechnic
    • Directing visitors to various destinations in the Polytechnic iv. Protecting Polytechnic's property including buildings, stores,motor vehicles and equipment;
    • Inspecting and maintaining records for incoming and outgoing vehicles and visitors:
    • Compiling and submitting security report on daily basis; vii. Patrolling and/ or guard of access points;
    • Prevention of unauthorized persons and vehicles from entering premises and/or protected areas;
    • Controlling and reporting of intruders into restricted areas and prevention and detection of crime;
    • Compiling and submitting security report on daily and monthly basis and recommending appropriate action;
    • Recording security related events in the occurrence book; xii. Keeping custody of lost and found property, Conducting induction for new security staff;
    • Conducting drills;
    • Ensuring that action is taken on physical deficiencies and lapses in the Polytechnic
    • Liaising with Police department on security matters within the Polytechnic and its environs;
    • Supervising and conducting performance appraisals for departmental staff.
    • Any other duty that may be assigned by the supervisor

    Qualifications and Experience
    The candidate for the post must possess the following qualifications and qualities:

    • He must possess a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Security Management. Master's degree or professional certifications in security management, risk management, or facilities/operations management. Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Safety, Homeland Security, or a related field will be an added advantage.
    • A retired military personnel of the rank of Major and above or its equivalent in the armed forces or a retired police officer of the rank Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and above.
    • Management level security experience: typically 7-15 years in security or protective services, with a track record of progressively responsible leadership roles.
    • He must be experienced in safeguarding campus facilities, students, staff, and assets are highly valuable.
    • Experience in Budget development and budgetary control for a security or facilities unit. Policy development, implementation, and enforcement of security regulations. Incident command, emergency response, and continuity of operations planning. 
    • Access control and patrol operations. Experience with visitor management, access point control, and patrol/routing optimization. Knowledge of physical security systems (CCTV. access control, Intrusion Detection Systems, alarm systems).
    • Investigations and reporting. Conducting investigations, maintaining incident/occurrence records, and generating security reports (daily, monthly, as required).
    • Coordinating with police, campus administration, facilities, IT, and risk management.
    • People management. Supervising security staff, conducting performance appraisals, and delivering training/inductions.
    • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and standards (local laws, labor regulations, health and safety).

    Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service

    • The requirement shall be in accordance with Federal Ministry of Education's approved guidelines for the position.
