    Capital Investment Lead

    Description

TechnoServe is a leader in harnessing the power of the private sector to help people lift themselves out of poverty. A nonprofit organization operating in 29 countries, we work with enterprising men and women in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses and industries. By linking people to information, capital and markets, we have helped millions to create lasting prosperity for their families and communities.

Founded over 50 years ago, TechnoServe has been named the #1 nonprofit for fighting poverty by the ImpactMatters charity ratings agency.

    About the Project

Prosper Cashew is a five-year, $25 million project funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Food for Progress Program that aims to catalyze investment for the West African cashew processing sector. Over the next five years, the project will strengthen and revive existing cashew processing facilities across Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, and Nigeria and support the development of new processing facilities and other value chain enterprises as part of the project’s overall goal to increase the share of raw cashew nut that is processed in the region from about 8% to 50%. By increasing domestic processing, the project will help West African countries to generate an estimated additional $422 million in forex revenues annually and create more than 500,000 direct and indirect jobs for both women and men.

A key component of the project will be to facilitate access to critically needed working capital and demonstrate the business case for additional investment flows into the sector. The project will establish and deploy a $60 million Cashew Catalyst Fund (CCF) focused on providing long-term working capital to existing processors, enabling dormant processing capacity to become operational. In parallel, the project will provide a Match-Making Facility to connect both established and prospective processors to already existing private equity funds in the region.
