    Branch Weapon Contamination (WeC) Focal Persons

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the supervision of the Branch Secretary and technical guidance of the Disaster Management Officer, the WeC Focal Person will be responsible for proper planning, implementation, follow up and evaluation of all WeC Risk Awareness and Safer Behavior (RASB) activities of the NRCS branch, in close collaboration with ICRC WeC Field Manager and Field Officers.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The WeC Focal Person (hereinafter the WeC FP) will be the main point of contact for the Focal Person at the NRCS’s Headquarter in Abuja regarding the RASB collaboration.
    • The WeC FP shall retain the overall management responsibility at the branch level for the NRCS, specifically for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation phases of the collaboration. S/He shall report to her/his respective managers and to the Focal Point at NRCS’s Headquarter on progress made in implementing the RASB activities.
    • The WeC FP shall assist in identifying the NRCS volunteers for the branch regarding the RASB project based on selection criteria such as the geographical coverage, a gender balance among the selected criteria per NRCS branch and a language balance to facilitate the implementation of RASB activities in the languages spoken by the local population.
    • The WeC FP shall provide guidance and support to the NRCS Volunteers at the branches and shall be their point of contact at the NRCS branches regarding the RASB collaboration.
    • The WeC FP shall compile monthly statistical reports and quarterly narrative reports based on the reports provided by the NRCS Volunteers. These reports shall be submitted in writing to the Focal Point at NHQ by the end of the first week of a given month for the previous period (month or quarter depending on the report).
    • The WeC FP shall ensure that the volunteers implementing RASB activities are paid and inform the Focal Point at NHQ in case of discrepancies.
    • The WeC FP will ensure that all retirement documents for payments and incentives paid to the volunteer are retired promptly. 
    • The WeC FP shall assist the Focal Point at NHQ to identify new areas where RASB activities would be necessary.
    • The WeC FP shall participate in all trainings provided by the ICRC in the context of the RASB project.
    • The WeC FP shall be responsible for overseeing the handling, storage and effective use of educational tools that are developed during the course of the project implementation, as described in the operational cooperation agreement between the NRCS and the ICRC.
    • The WeC FP may take the initiative to promote the Risk Awareness and Safer Behaviour Project via local songs, games or other interactive means with validation from the ICRC.
    • The WeC FP may be required to support the ICRC WeC teams in carrying out RASB activities in the field.

    Other responsibilities:

    • The WeC FP can support other programs of the NS when needed based on the Branch Secretaries discretion with 80% regular time allocated to WeC activities.
    • The WeC FP might be requested to work during the weekends and holidays.
    • In addition to the above-mentioned tasks, the WeC FP could be asked to perform other task not described on the current job description.

    QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor\'s Degree/HND in relevant field of study.
    • Minimum of 3years’ experience in weapon contamination/mine action response.
    • Computer skills and competencies in Word, Excel, Power Point and internet web-based searching.
    • Experience within the Red Cross Movement.
