    Emergency Nutrition Coordinator

    Reports to Emergency Nutrition Specialist
    Purpose: Assist emergency nutrition specialist in coordination of the emergency nutrition response and recovery team in area of designing, planning,
    implementation, financial control, monitoring and evaluation of emergency nutrition and related responses

    Dimensions of Role

    • Raising and also managing up to 3 million USD per year from diversified donors.
    • Support the project coordinator in each field office.
    • Liaising with government ministries offices and bureaus at state and LGAs levels and also with UN agencies, NGOs and other civic organizations.
    • Responsible for ensuring compliance with organizational and statutory policies and laws on People and Culture legality matters and also has responsibility to ensure compliance of the design and
    • implementation of emergency/recovery and resilience focused nutrition responses in line with applicable government policies, guidelines and procedures.
    • Representing Plan Nigeria on behalf of nutrition specialist in humanitarian coordination meetings, taskforces, clusters and technical working groups that are related to nutrition in emergency and
    • recovery/resilience context

    Key End Results and typical Responsibilities
    Programme Support:

    • Provide technical leadership and guidance in implementation of effective nutrition projects.
    • Planning and implementation of Nutrition Response project activities and set high quality performance targets ensuring adherence to national policy, strategy and technical standards, best practices and
    • donor and internal guidelines
    • Participate nutrition and related forums and nutrition coordination meetings and other nutrition related state platforms/networks and ensuring effective information sharing and flow within PIN
    • To enhance understanding regarding standards and accountability in nutrition in emergencies
    • To ensure effective communication and information sharing on emergency nutrition programming.
    • Actively participate in soliciting/unsolicited fund for emergency nutrition projects
    • Ensure development of core skills and competencies in nutrition among PIN staff in the field Office.
    • Coordinate and lead nutrition response projects during planning, budget preparation, implementation, M&E and timely reporting ensuring quality and standards through enhanced partnership with
    • government and non-government partners and also civic organizations including CBOs as appropriate
    • Provide leadership and guidance in the design and undertaking of rapid assessments and standard nutrition surveys and subsequently in the design of nutrition responses in affected areas.
    • Provide direct hands-on technical support to Nutrition officer/CMAM officer/IYCF officer and PIN partners to effectively and innovatively manage nutrition projects with focus on key technical areas
    • including CMAM and IYCF
    • Ensure that emergency nutrition and related projects are technically sound, environmentally friendly, socially and cultural acceptable
    • Ensure documentation of good practices in emergency nutrition and effective communication of lessons within and outside PIN with the aim to enhance learning to improve future planning and programming.
    • Ensure the design, implementation and impact assessment of nutrition responses are fully in compliance with SPHERE & other international standards, national guidelines and policies and also in
    • line with humanitarian accountability principles, values and code of conduct
    • Ensuring mainstreaming of cross cutting issues mainly gender, DRR, HIV&AIDS and disability in responses.
    • Review and submit weekly/monthly CMAM/IYCF and other nutrition related progress reports and other relevant data for stakeholders including nutrition in emergency working group, ministry of health and
    • others.

    Capacity Building:

    • Apply/introduce innovative approaches and good practice to build the capacity plan international staff, partners and other stakeholders and to support the implementation and delivery of concrete
    • and sustainable program results.
    • Organize and implement capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of plan nutrition staff/stakeholders to promote sustainable results on nutrition related programs/projects.

    Coordination & Representation

    • Liaise and establish contacts at state level nutrition in emergency working group, Ministry of health, local authority, donor, NGOs, UN agencies and other international partners and
    • participate in technical, logistics and operational meetings and discussions at state level concerning emergency nutrition response in PIN operational areas
    • Regularly attend Nutrition cluster meeting at appropriate levels

    Other

    • Consistently and proactively monitor/assess the safety and security of field teams; promptly reporting concerns or incidents to Plan management and liaising with community leaders and other external
    • parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment for Plan programs
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop Plan programs

    Dealing with Problems

    • Ability to manage competing priorities and expectations from internal and external stakeholders
    • and remain calm and resilient in the face of pressure.
    • Manage multiple and work with distant colleagues to form a virtual efficient administration team;
    • Use Plan procedures to settle conflicts among colleagues;
    • Resolve problems that are not covered by established process.
    • Analyse possible causes of problems and suggest solutions to get them resolved.
    • Refer, whenever necessary, the case to the Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist for
    • consideration.

    Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:
    Knowledge:
    Qualifications and Experience

    • Master degree in public Nutrition, Public Health or equivalent and have a minimum of two years’
    • field experience in coordination positions, with an NGO, on preventing under nutrition programs.
    • At least 1 year’s direct experience providing services to children at risk and victims of abuse,
    • exploitation and violence, providing gender-sensitive and child-friendly counseling services, and/or
    • developing/implementing referral pathways for nutrition services
    • Extensive experience in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and a
    • proven experience in nutrition programs designing. Experiences of working in partnerships and
    • advocate for improvements in the Nutrition Sector, as well as writing proposals, leadership, budget
    • management and developing coherent and contextualized Nutrition Strategies.

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Demonstrated understanding of the skills necessary to work with children and particularly vulnerable children
    • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, think and plan strategically, and communicate with key
    • actors in a dynamic and unpredictable operating environment
    • Excellent community mobilization skills
    • Strong skills in monitoring, evaluation, research and conducting participatory, community-led assessments.
    • Knowledge of Sphere and established international child protection/GBV standards, methodology and tools
    • Knowledge of community mobilization and facilitation techniques
    • Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Ability and willingness to work in a participatory manner with a diverse range of client communities
    • Personal qualities: Team player, clear communicator, flexible, network-builder, able to handle
    • pressure well under minimal supervision, and a commitment to child rights and gender equality
    • Languages: Fluency in English
    • Bringing hearts and minds together for children

    Level of Contact with Children:
    High contact- the job responsibilities of this position require the post holder to have very frequent contact
    with children. It is expected that children shall be protected at all times.
