Academic Qualifications
- Candidates must possess any of the following or equivalent qualifications registerable with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN):
  - British B.O.T. Certificate of competency as 1st Mate
  - British B.O.T. Certificate of competency, 2nd Class (Steam or Motor)
  - A degree in Marine Engineering or related subject from a recognized University.
