    Chief Security Officer

    Location: Apapa, Lagos
    Reports to: Group Managing Director; MD, Ports & Cargo
    Classification: Full-time

    Job Overview

    • The Chief Security Officer will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of the corporate security processes and the various security and safety functions pertaining to all persons and properties at SIFAX Group.

    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Responsible for the security of the personnel and physical assets, including protection, workplace violence prevention, access control systems
    • Provide the ports ‘first point of call’ for emergency services
    • Formulate, implement and monitor security policies, programs or procedures for SIFAX Group to ensure compliance with ISPS Code, internal security policies, licensing requirements, or applicable government security requirements, policies, and directives.
    • Reviewing the security apparatus of SIFAX Group including ISPS Code, SOLARS programs and implementation: monitoring progress and recommending any action towards achieving objectives.
    • Plan, direct and coordinate security activities to safeguard SIFAX Group assets, employees, guests, or others on company property.
    • Manage the development and implementation of the company’s security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security.
    • Liaise with appropriate security agencies and regulatory authorities to ensure SIFAX Group is up-to-date on all security-related regulations.
    • Work with other executives to prioritize security initiatives and spending based on appropriate risk management.
    • Analyze and evaluate security operations of all SIFAX Group subsidiaries to identify threats, risks or opportunities for improvement (e.g. implementation of new technology)
    • Conduct, support, or assist in governmental reviews, internal corporate evaluations, or assessments of the overall effectiveness of all SIFAX subsidiaries security processes.
    • Conduct physical examinations of all SIFAX Group properties to ensure compliance with security policies and regulations.
    • Performing periodic and special security audits and surveys (PFSA and PFSP) of operating activities, work standards associated data and related practices: ensuring compliance with management policy and procedures and ascertaining the effectiveness of security operations throughout the Organization.
    • Communicate security status, updates, and actual or potential problems, using established protocols.
    • Planning and developing required training programs and ensuring that they are conducted in such a way that all affected security personnel acquire the relevant understanding of security principles and practices.
    • Represent management and provide an effective two-way channel of communication for the dissemination of information on corporate and local policies and objectives for the reporting and solution of problems and grievances among regulatory agencies, visitors and clients
    • Supervise subordinate security, performing activities such as training, assigning work, and evaluating performance
    • Recommend security procedures for security operations centers, asset classification systems, system acquisition, system development, system maintenance, access control, program models, or reporting tools.
    • Submitting to the GMD regular reports on security activities as required on internal investigations, losses, or violations of regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Identify, investigate, or resolve security breaches.
    • Request for security-related supplies and equipment when needed.
    • Coordinate security operations or activities with public law enforcement, fire and other agencies.
    • Attend meetings, professional seminars or conferences to keep abreast of changes in new technologies impacting security operations.
    • Assist in emergency management and contingency planning.
    • Plan, coordinate and execute protection activities for company executives.
    • Plan and coordinate emergency response team activities, respond to medical emergencies, bomb threats, fire alarms or intrusion alarms following emergency response procedure.
    • Plan, coordinate fire drills, and other emergency simulation exercise to keep up with emergency preparedness or any high-risk events.
    • Develop budgets for security operations and review financial reports to ensure efficiency and quality of security operations.
    • Write or review security-related documents, such as incident reports, proposals, and tactical or strategic initiatives.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • A first degree or equivalent qualification is required
    • Membership of a recognized security association is mandatory
    • An Ex-service Personnel will be an added advantage
    • Adequate knowledge of security issues in a large organization or government agency
    • Good knowledge of crime prevention, investigation, detection and prosecution
    • Minimum of 10 years hands-on experience in the Maritime, Oil and Gas or any other relevant industry with at least 5 years’ experience at managerial level
    • The ability to work within a diverse operational team, demonstrating tact and good interpersonal skills
    • Training as Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) will be an added advantage.
