    Application Architect


    Job Responsibilities

    • Define and implement Application strategy, architecture standards, roadmaps and guidelines to ensure highest quality applications.
    • Guide architectural focus groups as prime subject-matter expert in area of expertise.
    • Provide expert knowledge of enterprise 2.0 application strategies and best practices.
    • Lead enterprise-wide implementations, define and enforce application architecture standards, procedures, metrics and policies.
    • Analyze and design technology approaches and develop global architectures and Enterprise 2.0 solutions.
    • Research, assess, analyze and recommend Application Architecture standards and ensure their use (i.e. web search engines, trend analysis and forecasting tools, content management systems, document management systems, application development tools, business and object modeling tools, application servers).
    • Define the company’s Application Strategy in line with Social Media and Mobility.
    • Provides interface for strategy and direction with application providers.
    • Evaluate emerging technologies and standards for impact on the application

    Architecture Landscape:

    • Performs the role of technical lead for large application development projects.
    • Provide guidance and technical direction to team members, including training materials and presentations on relevant products and/or technologies.
    • Review, recommend, and provide corrective action plans as required from a technical perspective.
    • Review and approve supplier designed technical solutions against defined Customer standards and KPIs.
    • Ability to work with others in a constructive and collaborative manner.
    • Ability to think critically; to recognize and anticipate a problem (technical, operational, process, organizational) and to identify and implement the best solution in a timely manner.
    • Ability to lead multiple supplier teams to a technical solution.
    • Knowledge and understanding of marketplace experience, developments and trends related to the Information Technology function.
    • Knowledge of mainstream technologies and architectures.
    • Knowledge and application of Telco 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 standards to the company’s Application Architecture landscape.

    Supervisory Expectations:

    • IS Team members conforms to EA principles & standards.
    • Facilitate rollout of professional Development standards.
    • Required to guide and influence peers within the IS department in the adoption of appropriate frameworks.
    • Manage the complexities of the interaction between the multitude of technologies and services.
    • Knowledge of the company’s industry group, trends, directions, major issues, and regulatory considerations preferred.
    • Highly motivated and driven to achieve both personal and team excellence.
    • Ability to balance and govern the strategic demands of proper enterprise architecture design with the tactical demands of how IT drives effective enterprise change.
    • Strong presentation/white boarding skills. Must be able to lead technical discussions with technically strong client personnel.
    • Take leadership during Applications solution/roadmap project definition, and delivery in collaboration with Engagement managers and project managers within the company.
    • Key Functional Competencies
    • Mastered the principles of how business strategy drives IT strategy.
    • Proven experience in Enterprise Architecture Governance and standards.
    • Excellent negotiation and facilitation skills are critical to this role: (Able to convey and sell ideas and strategies to stakeholders).
    • Education:
    • A first degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems or related field from a reputable institution.
    • A Master’s degree in a related field will be an added advantage.
    • TOGAF certified for at least 36 - 48 months.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of eight (8) years’ work experience of which:
    • 5years Enterprise Architecture (Business, Data, Applications, Technology) experience.
    • 4 years’ experience integrating applications and technology in a complex environment.
    • 5 years applications road-mapping and blueprinting governance experience.
    • 2+ years Architecture Portfolio Optimization.
    • Good working knowledge of EA frameworks, TOGAF, NGOSS & Telco 2.0.
