The Nigerian Army has officially opened its Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) 29/2026 application process.

The announcement was published on the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal, as part of efforts to strengthen the Army and address Nigeria’s current security challenges.

The Army also warned the public to ignore any application portal opened before this announcement, stressing that the recruitment exercise is free of charge.

Who Can Apply?

The DSSC 29/2026 recruitment is open to:

  • Civilians

  • Serving military personnel (with proper endorsement)

Applicants must be:

  • Nigerian citizens

  • Between 20 and 32 years old by 30 March 2026 (Medical Consultants: up to 40 years)

  • Medically and physically fit

  • Free from criminal records, cultism, or tattoos

  • Hold at least a Second Class Upper degree or HND Upper Credit

How to Apply for Nigerian Army DSSC 29/2026

The application is online only and completely free. The portal will be open from 7 January to 4 February 2026.

Step-by-Step Application Guide

  1. Go to the Nigerian Army recruitment website: recruitment.army.mil.ng

  2. On the homepage, select Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC).

  3. Read the requirements carefully to be sure your qualification matches the corps you want to apply for.

  4. Click on “Apply Now”.

  5. You will be asked if you are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Choose the correct option and continue.

  6. If you don’t have an account, click Sign Up and verify your email. If you already have one, simply log in.

  7. Fill in the application form and upload the required documents:

    • Passport photograph

    • Educational certificates

    • Professional body membership evidence (if applicable)

    • State of origin certificate

    • Birth certificate or age declaration

    • NIN/BVN

After completing the application, applicants must print their application slip.

  • Page one must be signed by a Court Registrar

  • Page two must be signed by a Local Government Chairman/Secretary, or a senior military or police officer from the applicant’s state

These documents will be presented during screening.

Corps Available for DSSC 29/2026

Applicants are expected to apply only into a corps that matches their qualification. In simple terms, what you studied in school determines the corps you can apply for.

Those who studied courses like Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Building Technology, Estate Management, Surveying, GIS, Geology, or Urban and Regional Planning should apply under the Nigerian Army Engineers.

Candidates with backgrounds in technology and communications such as Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Telecommunications, Networking, Database Management or drone-related fields should apply under the Nigerian Army Signals.

The Nigerian Army Medical Corps is strictly for health and medical professionals. Medical consultants in recognized specialties such as Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Dentistry and other medical specialties can apply, provided they are not above 40 years of age and are fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria with a current specialist practicing license. 

Non-consultant medical doctors and dental surgeons with MBBS or BDS, as well as nurses, pharmacists and other allied health professionals such as laboratory scientists, radiographers, physiotherapists, optometrists, psychologists and similar health workers can also apply, as long as they are fully registered with their respective professional bodies and have a valid practicing license.

Applicants who studied engineering courses such as Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automotive Engineering, Industrial or Production Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Weapon Engineering, Computer or Software Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, Biomedical or Avionics Engineering should apply under the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Relevant professional registration is required.

Graduates with education-related qualifications such as Mathematics Education, Computer Science or ICT Education, and Library and Information Science should apply under the Nigerian Army Education Corps. Applicants must possess the required education degree or HND and be registered with the appropriate professional bodies.

About 100 pushups within 1 minute is the amount of pushup an army official is expected to be able to do. Note: this differs for male and female cadets.

No. The training is thorough.

9. How do I pay my bills while at basic training?
The Nigerian government gives each cadet an allowance that is enough to cover basic needs. A portion of it is also saved by the authorities, and is given as a lump sum at the conclusion of training.

By undergoing the 5 year training as a regular combatant; joining through short service commission and executive commissioning for soldiers.
