SAVE PLANET EARTH, GENTLEMEN ARE GOING EXTINCT!

Adam had invited me several times to go on a date with him. I turned down all the invites, not because he was a terrible person but because I felt it would be a waste of our time.

Adam is a lively person. Though not a comedian by profession, he could actually make me laugh which I considered a feat because I don’t laugh easily. The problem though was, I felt nothing for Adam. Anyway, he eventually talked me into it and I agreed to go on one date with him.

And he did almost everything wrong on that date. From making me walk by the roadside to eating noisily to not opening doors for me. Worst part was he saw nothing wrong in his actions!

Which brought to mind the question that had been bugging me all day... Are gentlemen actually going extinct? We seem to be running out of gentlemen in our  present society which is very alarming, at least for me.

Being a gentleman should come naturally and if not, it should be cultivated. A gentleman should be considerate and respectful, he should:

·         Walk on the outside of the sidewalk when walking with his woman.

·         Holds doors for people (particularly for women).

·         Let others cut in line if they have fewer items of purchase than him (especially at Shoprite).

·         Rise when his lady approaches him, offer to seat her, have table manners and walk her to her doorstep.

·         Support her dreams and goals and do not leave when things get tough.

·         Save the last bite for her when they eat together.

·         Agree to sit through and endure her romantic/girly movies just because she likes it (especially when he’s not expecting something in return).

·         Fill up her gas tank.

·         Offer her his jacket when the weather gets chilly.

·         A gentleman is punctual. I mean, if you’re not early, you are late.

·         Give sincere and frequent compliments and do not make fun of her.

·         He listens.

·         Of course, he sends his lady flowers (not just on Valentine’s Day).

·         And my favourite, little kisses on the forehead.

·         Oh! and a gentleman never hits a woman. Ever.

These aren’t too many to ask for, are they? Anyway, a big hi-five to my brother, he is a gentleman. Any other gentleman in the house?
