    Director General

    Job Description

    • NIA seeks experienced individuals to provide strategic leadership and direction for the Association.
    • The ideal candidates will be required to demonstrate highly advanced strategic perspectives and execution capabilities and must be able to engage with a range of diverse and sometimes challenging internal and external stakeholders.

    Roles & Responsibilities
    Overall Function of the Position:

    • The Director General (DG) is responsible for the achievement of the Association’s vision, mission and strategic direction as well as driving the accomplishment of growth and expansion programs, governance policies and management of business risks.
    • The Director General reports directly to the Governing Council.

    Specific Duties of the Position:

    • Provide strategic direction and oversight to the management team to drive the Association’s business towards sustainable growth
    • Articulate and oversee the translation of high level corporate strategies and growth plans into business and operational strategies
    • Ensure best practices to achieve world class market development initiatives for the industry
    • Liaise with the Government across all levels from National Assembly, MDAs and State levels, NAICOM, Regulatory bodies such as NSE, SEC, CAC with a view to ensuring that the Association’s interests are presented and protected.
    • Create avenues to promote productive relationships among members of the Association such as conferences and meetings for the discussion of technical and professional matters relevant to Insurance.
    • Build relationships with individuals, associations, institutions or bodies within or outside Nigeria whose goals align with those of the Association
    • Maintain constant dialogue with other trade Associations in the Insurance industry with a view to fostering good relationships between them, the NIA as well as the insuring public
    • Create an enabling environment that empowers management and staff to develop the capabilities required to achieve set goals and proactively respond to opportunities and challenges in the business environment
    • Maximize platforms  to engage with Government and regulatory bodies to guide the formulation of enabling laws, statutes and regulations.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in any related discipline
    • Minimum of 20 years post-qualification experience in the financial services industry out of which ten (10) years must have been spent at an Executive management level
    • Relevant professional will be an added advantage e.g. ACIIN, ACCA
    • Evidence of strong industry knowledge

    Job Description

    • The Association deploys modern information technology in its operations. NIA seeks experienced individuals to provide strategic leadership and direction for the Association.
    • The ideal candidates will be required to demonstrate highly advanced strategic  perspectives and execution capabilities and must be able to engage with a range of diverse and sometimes challenging internal and external stakeholders.

    Roles & Responsibilities
    Overall Function of the Position:

    • The Director of Operations will direct and coordinate the internal operational activities of the Association in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives established by the Director General and the Governing Council.

    Specific Duties of the Position:

    • Direct internal operations to achieve budgeted results and other financial criteria
    • Participate in the development and preparation of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based upon broad organization goals and objectives and make recommendations to the Director General.
    • Direct the development and installation of procedures and controls, to promote communication and adequate information flow, and thereby solidify management control and direction of the Association
    • Organise regular meetings of the specialized committees of the Association every month where issues affecting the industry are addressed
    • Develop and establish operating policies consistent with the DG’s broad strategies and ensure adequate execution of stated plans
    • Appraise and evaluate the results of Technical operations regularly and systematically, and report results to the DG
    • Work with other management staff to ensure that all activities and operations are performed in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing the association’s operations
    • Supervise the preparation of statutory reports and drive the implementation of recommendations arising from statutory reviews (e.g. audit, tax, risk etc.)
    • Manage master project lists and assign special projects as needed

    Requirements

    • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Management, Finance, Economics or Business related discipline
    • Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience in the financial services industry out of which five (5) years must have been spent at an Executive or Senior management level
    • Relevant professional certifications e.g. CIIN will be an added advantage
    • Evidence of strong industry knowledge
