Job Description
The Appointee will require to:

• To understudy senior ratings in deck department as deck trainee to progress into the rank of Ordinary Seaman after successfully completing requisite training in compliance with STCW, 2010.

The Person
The duties will include, but not limited to the following:

• All ratings in departments have a duty to ensure the safety and safe working practices of both them and the personnel that they are working with.
• They are under the control of the CPO / Bosun and carry out duties relating to the safety, navigation, operation, maintenance and security of the ship and all hold, tank, and ballast space cleaning.
• Whilst undertaking Bridge lookout duties, the Rating must report the observation of all other vessels in visual range directly to the OOW. The Rating is required to move around the Bridge to maintain a 360-degree lookout in compliance with Rule 5 (Lookout) of the International Collision Regulations. The Rating should also occasionally confirm visual observations by Radar and check for any visually un-observed targets. A regular check astern of the vessel must be maintained however in Piracy areas, the frequency of these checks must be increased
• The Rating should bring any defects to the attention of the SMT and suggest remedial actions required to rectify the same
• He/she should be fully conversant with Permit to Work systems and the Daily Work Planning procedures.
• In addition he/she must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Chief Engineer, Master, Second Engineer, Chief Officer, Cargo/Gas Engineer or delegated OOW.

Requirements
The right candidate should possess the following basic qualifications:

• Senior School Certificate Examination not earlier than 2008 with credits in Mathematics and English.
• International Passport
• Seaman Discharge Book
• STCW Mandatories (PSSR, PST, Firefighting and Prevention)
• Yellow Fever Cards
• Be 18 years of age or above

Job Description

• To provide assistance to the deck team onboard the ship and carryout all duties as prescribed by the master.

Job Responsibilities
The duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

• The Third Officer understudies and assists the Second Officer. He/She must keep a navigational watch.
• During cargo operations, he/she will assist with cargo operations, stability, ballast operations, moorings and ship security during the period of his watch.
• The individual is responsible for the safety of all personnel working for him.
• The individual is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all deck portable firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliances..
• The individual is responsible to the Master for the completion of records of on -board training.
• Where required shall act as nominated officer for the GMDSS station with responsibility for associated tests and records.
• The individual is responsible for the upkeep of the Recreational and Technical library.
• The Third Officer must carry out any lawful command and delegated duty as issued by the Master.

Requirements
The right candidate should:

• Be a Nigerian seafarer
• Have a minimum of three months experience on a Gas Tanker, preferably LNG tanker
• Have a minimum of OOW Deck Certificate of Competency issued by the any of the following named Maritime agencies/authorities: Algeria, Georgia, Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Azerbaijan, Greece, Oman, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Belgium, Hungary, Peru, Brazil, Iceland, Philippines, Bulgaria, India, Poland, Canada, Indonesia, Portugal, Cape Verde, Iran, Romania, Chile, Ireland, Italy, Senegal, Croatia, Jamaica, Serbia, Cuba, Japan, Singapore, Cyprus, Jordan, Slovenia, Czech Republic Korea, Republic of South Africa, Denmark, Latvia, Spain, Ecuador, Lithuania, Sri Lanka, Madagascar Sweden, Estonia, Malaysia, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Malta, Turkey, Faroe Islands, Mexico Ukraine, Fiji Montenegro Uruguay Finland Morocco,USA France Myanmar Vietnam
