    Technologist II (Chemistry)

    The Technologist II (Chemistry) will play a key role in supporting teaching, research, and laboratory operations within the Chemistry Department.

    He/she is expected to:

    • Accurately prepare reagents, solutions, and chemical samples for undergraduate and postgraduate practical sessions, ensuring consistency and reliability in all experiments.
    • Operate, calibrate, and maintain specialized laboratory instruments including spectrophotometers, chromatographs (HPLC, GC), pH meters, and titration systems to ensure uninterrupted academic and research activities.
    • Assist faculty members in setting up and supervising laboratory experiments, guiding students in safe and correct laboratory techniques, and clarifying the use of scientific instruments during classes.
    • Provide technical assistance to academic staff and postgraduate researchers, including preparation of materials, collection of experimental data, and application of analytical techniques.
    • Monitor stock levels of laboratory consumables, chemicals, and glassware, and work with the Head of Department to forecast, request, and replenish supplies in a timely manner.
    • Enforce laboratory safety protocols, conduct regular risk assessments, and ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals in compliance with environmental and safety standards.
    • Maintain detailed logs of laboratory experiments, equipment usage, repairs, and chemical inventories; prepare periodic reports for departmental review and quality assurance.
    • Contribute ideas and expertise towards improving laboratory procedures, developing new experimental techniques, and enhancing the efficiency of laboratory operations.
    • Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and service providers for equipment servicing, calibration, and procurement while ensuring adherence to university policies and standards.
    • Provide informal mentorship to students by reinforcing best practices in laboratory work, safety awareness, and scientific ethics

    Qualification & Experience

    • HND in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Laboratory Technology, or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant technical experience in a university or research laboratory.
    • Professional certification or membership in relevant scientific associations is an added advantage.
    • High attention to detail and accuracy in preparing experiments and recording results.
    • Proactive critical thinking skills, with the ability to troubleshoot laboratory issues promptly.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to evolving departmental needs and emerging scientific techniques.

    Technologist II (Biochemistry)

    We are currently looking to engage a highly competent and result-oriented Technologist II(Biochemistry) with strong personal & professional integrity to join the dynamic team in our Institution.

    The Technologist II (Biochemistry) will provide essential technical support to the Biochemistry Department in the areas of laboratory teaching, research, and administrative operations.

    He/she is expected to:

    • Prepare reagents, biochemical solutions, culture media, and experimental materials for undergraduate and postgraduate practical sessions, ensuring accuracy and consistency in all preparations.
    • Operate, calibrate, and maintain specialized biochemistry laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, electrophoresis units, chromatography systems, and microscopes.
    • Assist faculty in setting up and supervising student laboratory classes, guiding students on correct techniques, safe handling of equipment, and compliance with laboratory rules.
    • Provide technical assistance for departmental and faculty research projects, including sample preparation, experimental data collection, and use of advanced biochemical research methods (e.g., enzyme kinetics, protein purification, nucleic acid analysis).
    • Maintain stock of chemicals, biological reagents, laboratory consumables, and equipment; forecast requirements and liaise with the Head of Department to request replenishments.
    • Implement safety procedures for handling biological and chemical materials, ensure proper waste disposal, and carry out risk assessments to minimize hazards in the laboratory.
    • Maintain accurate records of laboratory processes, student practical results, equipment usage, and maintenance logs; prepare periodic reports for departmental management and quality assurance purposes.
    • Suggest improvements to laboratory processes, introduce new techniques where feasible, and contribute to the development of laboratory manuals and teaching guides.
    • Provide mentorship and support to students by encouraging laboratory best practices, adherence to scientific ethics, and proper documentation of experiments.
    • Ensure laboratory practices meet university, national, and international academic/research standards, including accreditation requirements
