    Overview

    • The ultrasound unit is one of the important segments required to offer quality services to patients in our clinic.
    • We expect our sonographer to treat our patients with utmost professionalism, attend to patients promptly, and relate with them with respect and kindness.
    • Ultimately, our goal at Beaconhealth Diagnostics is to provide the best patient experience and the most accurate and timely clinical results.

    Responsibilities
    The day to day routine of BeaconHealth Sonographer includes six key responsibilities which are:

    • Treat all patients with absolute care and courtesy irrespective of their age.
    • Answering the telephone and handling paperwork.
    • Carry out the required and appropriate test procedures for every patient with optimum concentration as instructed.
    • Ensure safety and sanitary procedures are performed after each test on the patients and equipment.
    • Make necessary consultations with the manager.
    • Interpret images captured during the test, record, and document the result.

    • Observe and care for patients throughout the examination period to ensure their safety and comfort.

    • There must be a sense of compassion and you must be able to maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Carry out all tests with optimum concentration
    • The well-being of our patients is highly dependent on obtaining accurate results from every test carried out from our clinic which is one of our priorities in being recognized as one of the best diagnostic centres.
    • Also, close attention should be paid to the fact that a wrong diagnosis will lead to a wrong treatment and this can cause more harm to the patient, therefore all procedures verified before being carried out by you and should be done with uninterrupted concentration.
    • Try as much as possible to maintain a good state of mind before work starts -- all personal concerns that can cause distractions should be laid on hold.
    • Give maximum support, cooperation and assistance to the sonographer while carrying out examinations.
    • Calculations and measurements of images and the test result should be re-checked for verification before being handed over to the patient or forwarded to the physician for diagnosis and treatment.
    • Provide sonogram and written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis.
    • Select appropriate equipment setting and adjust patient position to obtain the best sites and angles.
    • Process and code film from procedures and compute appropriate documentation.
    • Record and store suitable images using the camera unit connected to the ultrasound equipment.
    • Perform legal and ethical duties including preparing safety and accident reports, obtaining written consent from patient to perform invasive procedures, and reporting symptoms of abuse and neglect.
    • Give an accurate documentation of the sonogram and other results derived from the test.
    • Ensure safety and sanitary procedures on patients and equipment
    • Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
    • Always prepare the ultrasound examination room for every procedure to be carried out on each patient.
    • High standards of professional cleanliness such as good hand hygiene before and after every patient contact are essential.
    • Thorough decontamination of ultrasound transducers and any equipment in direct patient contact before and after every patient, to the level required for specific procedures and in compliance with manufacturer specifications to avoid transducer surface damage, should be carried out. This includes regular decontamination of the ultrasound keyboard/console and any cables.
    • Where possible, single use disposable equipment is preferable (biopsy needles, needle guides, etc.), eliminating the risk of inadequate cleaning and disinfection/sterilisation.
    • Damaged ultrasound transducers should not be used as the risk of inadequate decontamination increases.
    • Regular deep cleaning of the entire ultrasound equipment and the surrounding environment should be carried out.
    • Use protective transducer covers dependent on the type of procedure. The use of transducer covers does not replace thorough decontamination, but merely reduces the contamination load.
    • Adequate use of personal protective equipment as required by the procedure (non-invasive versus invasive) is mandatory.
    • Use sterile ultrasound gel depending on procedure and patient’s risk of acquiring infections.
    • Appropriate waste disposal is compulsory.
    • Make necessary consultations with physicians and supervisor/manager
    • If there is any issue of concern, call the manager’s attention to it as the case may be.
    • If unclear about the referring doctor’s recommendation, put a call through to him and verify the right procedure to be carried out.
    • Do not carry out any test without the consent of the sonographer.
    • Interpret images captured during the test, record, and document the result
    • There must be a proper interpretation of the images,derived from the tests
    • A proper calculation of the measurements gotten should be verified and error free.
    • All patient details must be well documented and recorded as required.

    Requirements

    • Candidates should possess a B.Sc in Medical Radiography from a recognized tertiary institution
    • Must possess 2 - 3 years of post qualification practicing experience
    • Must possess a Diploma in Ultrasonography
    • Must have completed the mandatory NYSC
    • Must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria and possess a valid/current license to practice.

    Interact with Patients:

    • Getting diagnostics done can be a stressful and anxious experience for our patients. It is important for you to project a comfortable and reassuring presence for them.
    • Welcome each patient into the examination room with a warm smile and greet them, make them feel comfortable and relaxed as they settle down
    • Read the referring doctor notes and ask investigative questions about the patient’s symptoms.
    • Explain the procedures in lame-man terms to patients before proceeding
    • Observe and care for patients throughout the examination period to ensure their safety and comfort.
    • Even if the test result is not positive for the patient, do not make the patient feel scared or sad about it.

    Administer X-ray procedure:

    • Develop a daily priority list that allows all scheduled procedures to be completed and makes time for emergencies as well.
    • Determine the most appropriate method of imaging for each patient.
    • Utilize all radiographic equipment to perform x-rays, including (but not limited to) surgical and portable equipment.
    • Provide assistance to patients with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients.
    • Alongside compiling a medical history for the patient and providing them with any necessary protective clothing or gear, also ensure the patient is positioned to get the clearest and most accurate image possible.

    Perform Specialized Radiography:

    • Produce x-ray films of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems such as cancer or fractures.
    • Have the patient undress and remove jewelry.
    • Ascertain if the patient is claustrophobic.
    • Position patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.
    • Prepare solutions for patients to drink.
    • Surround the exposed area with radiation protection devices.
    • Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of a patient's body.
    • Measure the thickness of the section to be radiographed.

    Responsibilities & Expectations
    Below are the guidelines to the job expectations and responsibilities associated with these key tasks:

    Interact with Patients:

    • Getting diagnostics done can be a stressful and anxious experience for our patients. It is important for you to project a comfortable and reassuring presence for them.
    • Welcome each patient into the examination room with a warm smile and greet them, make them feel comfortable and relaxed as they settle down
    • Read the referring doctor notes and ask investigative questions about the patient’s symptoms.
    • Explain the procedures in lame-man terms to patients before proceeding
    • Observe and care for patients throughout the examination period to ensure their safety and comfort.
    • Even if the test result is not positive for the patient, do not make the patient feel scared or sad about it.

    Administer X-ray Procedure:

    • Develop a daily priority list that allows all scheduled procedures to be completed and makes time for emergencies as well.
    • Determine the most appropriate method of imaging for each patient.
    • Utilize all radiographic equipment to perform x-rays, including (but not limited to) surgical and portable equipment.
    • Provide assistance to patients with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients.
    • Alongside compiling a medical history for the patient and providing them with any necessary protective clothing or gear, also ensure the patient is positioned to get the clearest and most accurate image possible.

    Perform Specialized Radiography:

    • Produce x-ray films of parts of the human body for use in diagnosing medical problems such as cancer or fractures.
    • Have the patient undress and remove jewelry.
    • Ascertain if the patient is claustrophobic.
    • Position patients so that the parts of the body can be appropriately radiographed.
    • Prepare solutions for patients to drink.
    • Surround the exposed area with radiation protection devices.
    • Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of a patient's body.
    • Measure the thickness of the section to be radiographed.
    • Adjust controls on the x-ray machine to produce radiographs of the appropriate density, detail, and contrast of the body part.
    • Review and evaluate developed x-rays, video tape, or computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.

    Maintain Equipment and Ensure Safety:

    • Look after the various complex pieces of kit that are used, in order to make sure that they are safe and fit for use.
    • Prepare equipment when it’s time to perform a procedure and position it correctly to capture a clear image of the patient.
    • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and minor emergency repairs on radiographic equipment.
    • Ensure the equipment is always in proper working order.
    • Dispose waste properly; ensure proper sanitation of the x-ray room.

    Document Clinical Findings in a Clear, Concise and Professional Manner:

    • Analyze and report x-ray results to our physician team.
    • Maintain a detailed patient record and their medical history.
    • Monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physicians.
    • Monitor all radiographic supplies and submit purchasing requests to maintain proper supply levels.

    Requirements

    • Candidates should possess a B.Sc in Medical Radiography from a recognized tertiary institution
    • Must possess 2 - 3 years of post qualification practicing experience
    • Must have completed the mandatory NYSC
    • Must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria and possess a valid/current license to practice.

    Job Description

    The day to day routine of BeaconHealth Laboratory scientist includes five key responsibilities which are:

    • Work behind-the-scenes, processing laboratory tests that doctors count on to correctly diagnose and treat patients.
    • Provide information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests in toxicology, chemistry, hematology, immunology, and microbiology laboratories; receiving, typing, testing, and recording blood bank inventories.
    • Identify abnormal blood cells, detect cancerous tumors, perform cultures and identify bacteria and viruses, and assure safe transfusion of blood products.
    • Monitor testing quality and ensure adequate maintenance of the lab and lab equipment.

    • Head responsibility for collecting patient specimens required for processing in the lab.
    • There must be an apt attention to details and ability to understand and follow procedures.
    • Prepare samples for testing using various types of laboratory equipment.
    • Assess the validity of the results that are obtained, preserve proper records of the results and make the report of results. Make sure that the testing method used follows established quality control procedure and supervise the lab assistant in the preparation of laboratory reports.

    Provide information for patient diagnosis and treatment by performing laboratory tests:

    • Organize work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery and keep work surfaces clean and orderly.
    • Serve as a technical resource by participating in staff training; answering questions of other professionals; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.
    • Identify and communicate abnormal patient conditions by alerting supervisory personnel, the pathologist, the patient physician, or nurse; reporting mandated information to the public health department or other designated officials.
    • Identify the presence or quantity of drugs of abuse, therapeutic drugs, and toxic substances by operating toxicology instrumentation and performing manual methods for the performance of drug screens, blood alcohol levels, and carbon monoxide levels.

    The day to day routine of BeaconHealth Sonographer includes six key responsibilities which are:

    • Treat all patients with absolute care and courtesy irrespective of their age.
    • Answering the telephone and handling paperwork.
    • Carry out the required and appropriate test procedures for every patient with optimum concentration as instructed.
    • Ensure safety and sanitary procedures are performed after each test on the patients and equipment.
    • Make necessary consultations with the manager.

    Carry out all tests with optimum concentration:

    • The well-being of our patients is highly dependent on obtaining accurate results from every test carried out from our clinic which is one of our priorities in being recognized as one of the best diagnostic centres.
    • Also, close attention should be paid to the fact that a wrong diagnosis will lead to a wrong treatment and this can cause more harm to the patient, therefore all procedures verified before being carried out by you and should be done with uninterrupted concentration.
    • Try as much as possible to maintain a good state of mind before work starts -- all personal concerns that can cause distractions should be laid on hold.
    • Give maximum support, cooperation and assistance to the sonographer while carrying out examinations.
    • Calculations and measurements of images and the test result should be re-checked for verification before being handed over to the patient or forwarded to the physician for diagnosis and treatment.
    • Provide sonogram and written summary of technical findings to physician for use in medical diagnosis.
    • Select appropriate equipment setting and adjust patient position to obtain the best sites and angles.
    • Process and code film from procedures and compute appropriate documentation.
    • Record and store suitable images using the camera unit connected to the ultrasound equipment.
    • Perform legal and ethical duties including preparing safety and accident reports, obtaining written consent from patient to perform invasive procedures, and reporting symptoms of abuse and neglect.
    • Give an accurate documentation of the sonogram and other results derived from the test.

    Ensure safety and sanitary procedures on patients and equipment:

    • Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
    • Always prepare the ultrasound examination room for every procedure to be carried out on each patient.
    • High standards of professional cleanliness such as good hand hygiene before and after every patient contact are essential.
    • Thorough decontamination of ultrasound transducers and any equipment in direct patient contact before and after every patient, to the level required for specific procedures and in compliance with manufacturer specifications to avoid transducer surface damage, should be carried out. This includes regular decontamination of the ultrasound keyboard/console and any cables.
    • Where possible, single use disposable equipment is preferable (biopsy needles, needle guides, etc.), eliminating the risk of inadequate cleaning and disinfection/sterilisation.
    • Damaged ultrasound transducers should not be used as the risk of inadequate decontamination increases.
    • Regular deep cleaning of the entire ultrasound equipment and the surrounding environment should be carried out.
    • Use protective transducer covers dependent on the type of procedure. The use of transducer covers does not replace thorough decontamination, but merely reduces the contamination load.
    • Adequate use of personal protective equipment as required by the procedure (non-invasive versus invasive) is mandatory.
    • Use sterile ultrasound gel depending on procedure and patient’s risk of acquiring infections.
    • Appropriate waste disposal is compulsory.

    Make necessary consultations with physicians and supervisor/manager:

    • If there is any issue of concern, call the manager’s attention to it as the case may be.
    • If unclear about the referring doctor’s recommendation, put a call through to him and verify the right procedure to be carried out.
    • Do not carry out any test without the consent of the sonographer.

    Interpret images captured during the test, record, and document the result:

    • There must be a proper interpretation of the images,derived from the tests
    • A proper calculation of the measurements gotten should be verified and error free.
    • All patient details must be well documented and recorded as required.

    Requirements

    • Candidates should possess a B.Sc in Medical Radiography from a recognized tertiary institution
    • Must possess 2 - 3 years of post qualification practicing experience
    • Must possess a Diploma in Ultrasonography
    • Must have completed the mandatory NYSC
    • Must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria and possess a valid/current license to practice.
