Job Summary

• We are seeking a skilled Staff Backend Engineer to join our team and play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our core PHP-based legacy system.
• You will work alongside our senior engineers to ensure its smooth operation and contribute to ongoing modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, debug, and maintain backend code in PHP for our legacy system.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and product managers to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and performance of the legacy system.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the establishment of coding standards.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and learn new technologies as needed.
• Assist with the migration of functionalities from the legacy system to our modern microservices architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in backend development with PHP.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, etc.) and writing efficient SQL queries.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, testing, and maintenance of backend code across both the legacy
• PHP system and our newer microservices (TypeScript/ASP.NET Core) built on AWS.
• Design and implement scalable and maintainable backend solutions using event-driven architecture with SQS and SNS.
• Mentor and guide staff engineers in their learning and development.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
• Advocate for and participate in the adoption of new technologies to modernize our systems landscape.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in backend development, with strong expertise in PHP.
• Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable microservices architectures.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture with SQS, SNS, and AWS Lambda.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) is a plus.
• Familiarity with modern web development frameworks (e.g., TypeScript, ASP.NET Core) is a plus.
