    Manager, Laboratory System

    Purpose of the Position

    The Manager, Laboratory System will be responsible for leading the technical delivery of eHA’s laboratory system strengthening initiatives. This includes research, assessment, and contribution to new business development opportunities. S/he will also facilitate the formulation of research studies, prepare Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, write research grant proposals, and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals. The Manager Laboratory System acts in accordance with organizational and project specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), guidelines, budgets, timelines, and contracts, and assists with managing project budgets, tracking against milestones. The individual may lead and/or manage a partial or full project team(s).

    What you’ll do

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned:

    • Provides eHealth Africa Senior Management and Program Management Team with strategic guidance on infectious disease epidemiology and associated laboratory testing.
    • Support current laboratory priorities and design roadmap for laboratory systems strengthening investments with support from the Program Manager
    • Lead assessments of laboratory capacity to identify gaps and actions required for laboratory systems strengthening in collaboration with partners.
    • Provide both strategic and technical direction for all laboratory initiatives, overseeing its development and assuming responsibility for high-quality delivery.
    • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the laboratory space, including with the WHO AFRO, Ministry of Health, subnational level laboratories and public health partners. 
    • Contribute to initiatives towards laboratory systems digitalization
    • Identifies and assists in the preparation of research grant proposals, RFIs, clinical study protocols, IRB applications, and capacity statements.
    • Data collection and management include creating SOPs for data collection, creating databases, overseeing data collection in the field and conducting data monitoring. Analyzing data, using standard epidemiological methods.
    • Assists with identification and selection of vendors for LSS projects and provides quality assurance oversight.
    • Active participation in laboratory technical working groups and other stakeholder meetings
    • May frequently travel between company work-sites. Some international travel may be required.
    • Adheres to eHealth Africa Code of Conduct, applicable policies & procedures, as well as ethical standards of the field.

    Who we are looking for:

    • B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Science or in a related field. Relevant professional certification would be an added advantage
    • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, at least 2 years in a managerial role; NGO experience is an added advantage
    • Adherence to defined policies and procedures, monitor and evaluate direct reports.
    • Exposure to healthcare and/or health systems strengthening and/or experience working on public health projects
    • Excellent analytical (qualitative and quantitative) skills and communication (written and verbal) skills, including the ability to prepare and present compelling presentations and program planning and memo documents
    • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    • Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills with creative thinking capabilities
    • Ability to work independently on complex projects and proactively manage projects with minimal supervision
    • High level of confidentiality and knowledge of research ethics
    • Strong leadership skills, including good problem-solving skills and the ability to inspire confidence in teams.
    • Excellent written and verbal communications with a strong aptitude for succinctly presenting thoughts and ideas to senior internal and external stakeholders.
    • Must have the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Action-oriented and resilient in a fast-paced environment.

     Additional Requirements

    • Laboratory and diagnostics-related experience, either in a programmatic or clinical setting
    • Knowledge and experience in supporting laboratory systems and networks
    • Familiarity with laboratory support systems (e.g. supply chain management, lab information system, and quality assurance program)
    • Project management experience will be considered an advantage
    • Experience working in resource-limited settings

    Pharmacist

    Summary of Job: the Pharmacist will assist with the dispensing of medications, check prescriptions, and provide advice to patients on the medicines that have been prescribed for the patients. S/he will ensure an adequate supply of pharmacies through smart inventory management, review of actual usage, and review of re-order levels. The Pharmacist will develop and implement strategic initiatives and services in the pharmacy sector.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

    Pharmacist Duties

    • As a pharmacist, you will be responsible for preparing and dispensing medications to patients. You will achieve this by executing a physician’s order. 

    • The job entails a high level of responsibility and knowledge. A pharmacist does not merely hand out prescribed medicine; he/she has the expertise and willingness to assist people and provide them with information and solutions.

    • The pharmacist must be fully qualified to interpret symptoms so that the patient can either be given immediate treatment for a trifling condition or be referred to the suitable doctor. Pharmacists must also be able to provide professional advice on cosmetics or para-pharmaceuticals.

    • The goal is to ensure effective medication use and become the people’s trusted ally against health issues. That way you can deliver maximum value to both the pharmacy and society.

    • Reviewing and executing physician’s prescriptions checking their appropriateness and legality

    • Organizing the pharmacy in an efficient manner to make the identification of products easier and faster

    • Maintaining full control over delivering, stocking and labeling medicine and other products

    • Maintaining an up-to-date inventory of the Clinic drug Formulary 

    • Keeping records of all drugs, doses and prices on the automated inventory of the clinic. 

    • Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.

    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

    • Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

    • Be caring, compassionate and professional at all times;

    • Manage clinical risk.

    • Other duties as assigned from time to time

    Patient & Family Education/Support:

    • Provide emotional support and measures to alleviate fear and anxiety.

    • Assess patient and family readiness and identifying learning needs.

    • Lead/encourage multidisciplinary approach for patient’s discharge.

    • Develop and implement the teaching plan utilizing patient education manual.

    • Document patient and family education.

    • Participate in voluntary community health activities to promote, maintain and restore health and prevent diseases.

    • Adheres to Policies and Procedures.

    • Adheres to EHA Clinics Code of Conduct as well as ethical standards of the field.

    • Ensure continuing education, training and development is undertaken to meet clinical governance guidelines for Continuing Professional Development and a Personal Development Plan.

    Work Experience: 

    • A minimum of three (3) years post NYSC  progressive experience in Pharmacy within the private and public sector. Experience working with public health and health systems is an advantage.

    • Candidates should have experience in managing hospital pharmacy

    Qualifications & Training:

    • Candidates should have B.Sc Pharmacy 

    • Candidates must be a registered member of Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) with an up-to-date practicing license

    Salary: 

    Competitive salary scale based on improvements from the CONMESS and CONHESS salary structures as well as surveys from top private hospitals in Nigeria. Salary is negotiable but performance-based. Base salary constitutes 70%, while 30% is a bonus based on predefined individual performance indicators and monthly organizational performance.

    Research Associate

    Job Summary:

    The Research Associate is responsible for the coordination and overseeing daily administrative and clinical activities of the clinic and clinical team members to ensure compassionate, effective, and efficient delivery of high-quality clinical care for patients. S/he is responsible for the supervision of all employed clinical support staff. Serve as the primary leadership communication link between the teams and departments throughout the organization. S/he is responsible to ensure the overall smooth day-to-day operations, and employee engagement. In addition, as an Assistant QA manager, s/he will manage and implement quality management and quality improvement programs to ensure a high-quality patient experience while achieving departmental and organizational goals.

    • Assist a team of, scientists and clinical staff to successfully execute research projects.

    • Actively monitor the performance of projects to ensure they meet deliverables and deadlines.

    • Meet with funders and investigators to prepare research implementation plans.

    • Prepare and obtain Ethics Review Board and other applicable approvals.

    • Recruit and supervise research interns.

    • Coordinate with the procurement team for timely procurement of research equipment and consumables.

    • Regularly create social media posts and stories to increase the visibility of the department in the local and professional community.

    • Assist the finance team to prepare budgets and monitor expenditures.

    • Recruit additional staff as needed.

    • Screen grant applications and RFPs to identify research opportunities.

    • Provide some input to grant applications and RFPs and submit them on time.

    • Conduct outreach activities at universities and other suitable organizations to solicit new projects and staff.

    • Coordinate with external consultants as needed on projects.

    • Work closely with intramural and extramural colleagues to identify new research topics and funding opportunities.

    Requirements

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.

    • Bachelor’s degree in science, medicine or public health from an accredited university; a master’s degree in public health, biological science or a similar field will be an added advantage.

    • A minimum of 1 year of outstanding work experience as a research intern or support staff in a nationally recognized organization is essential. Demonstrable proof of such experience is required prior to any interviews.

    • Knowledge and experience in project management will be an added advantage.

    • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Hausa.

    • Good interpersonal skills and communication with a wide variety of patients, medical staff, and caregivers.

    • Strong computer skills, including Google Suite are desirable.

    • Good documentation and analytical skills.

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

    • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time as required.
