    Lab Technician

    The Key Purpose of this role is to carry out sampling, sample preparation and analysis of raw materials, in-process samples of brewing product from Brewhouse, Yeast & Fermentation and Bright beer.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Specialist Analysis

    • Carry out specialized and highly specialized quality analyses for which the shift-based teams are not responsible.
    • Record the results of analyses on appropriate information systems and communicate results where required.
    • Conduct analysis of results to identify problems and improvement opportunities timeously.
    • Assist the shift-based teams in the execution of quality analysis, where required.
    • Conduct calibration of specialist equipment for which the labs are responsible and provide calibration assistance to the shift-based teams where required.

    Quality Auditing

    • Conduct required and requested quality audits, completing the appropriate documentation and communicating the results.
    • Review quality analysis procedures of shift-based teams, identifying problems or training needs and communicating these to the team leader.
    • Conduct regular audits of calibration procedures of shift-based production teams and communicating results.
    • Conduct audits of analytic procedures to ensure compliance with COT guidelines, and identifying corrective actions required.
    • Where required, initiate corrective actions coming out of the quality audits in areas that impact the laboratory.

    Problem Solving

    • Support the shift-based production teams in problem solving, providing specialist assistance and techniques.
    • Coach, mentor and assist shift-based production teams on problem solving and correct use of problem-solving techniques.

    Training

    • Support the shift-based production teams by assisting in training needs analysis.
    • Coach, mentor and assist shift-based production teams quality analyses and correct use of analytical techniques.

    Continuous Improvement

    • Carry out specialized analyses in support of the evaluation of continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Determine additional analytical work required evaluating continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Take part in regional and divisional process optimization initiatives as required.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • HND in Laboratory Technology/Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent
    • 2-3 Years in Laboratory, Brewing or Packaging operation.
    • Ability to utilise computer programmes extensively.

    Packaging Machine Specialist

    The Key Purpose of this role is to maintain, repair and optimise plant and associated devices to ensure plant availability and product quality at minimum cost without sacrificing standards.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Operational Support

    • Provide specialist support to the shift based teams during operations, this will include standby and day shift support. Where requested, assist as a functional expert in problem solving.
    • Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift based teams on machine operation, machine fault finding and correct responses to machine failure modes.
    • Where requested, provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation to shift based teams.
    • Assess Operators and Artisans ability to carry out tasks. Take part, as functional expert, in regional and central office plant optimisation trials. Adhere to work practices that support shift based teams.

    Maintenance

    • Take part in maintenance planning meeting, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required.
    • Carry out work during the planned, routine and opportunity maintenance window in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the Planner.
    • Where scheduled work cannot be completed, feed back to the Maintenance Planner for direction , this may involve rescheduling the work or prioritising outstanding work.
    • Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks in during planned maintenance windows.
    • Complete any administration and SAP tasks in support of planned maintenance.
    • Partake in maintenance post mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities.
    • Carry out Autonomous Operations as per requirements.
    • Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance.
    • Planner must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques.
    • Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance (where required, additional resources may be called in to assist).
    • Verify that where running repairs have been carried out, this has addressed the problem.
    • Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs has carried out (this includes all SAP inputs) where running repairs cannot be carried out, communicate this to the Maintenance Planner to ensure the work is planned into the next planned window.

    Problem Solving

    • Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request.
    • Take part, as functional expert, in AB reports on request.
    • Where necessary, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Engineering Controller for direction.
    • Analyse machine performance, conduct loss and waste analysis and develop action plans to improve performance.

    Housekeeping and Safety

    • Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected.
    • Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate SAB policies and procedures.
    • Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties.

    Key Attributes and Competencies:

    • Ability to self-manage, with initiative and bias for action.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Minimum N6 Engineering.
    • Trade test qualification in Mechanical, Electrical,  Millwright or Instrumentation.
    • Matric with Maths and Science.
    • 2 years’ experience in an FMCG Environment.
    • Packaging experience highly advantageous.
