Junior Backend Developer at Guinea Insurance Plc

Role Summary

• We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Junior Backend Developer to join our Digital Technology team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Backend Developer to support the development, maintenance, integration, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of the organization’s backend applications and services. The role will provide hands-on exposure to backend development, API integration, application support, debugging, testing, version control and software development practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Senior Backend Developer in designing, developing and maintaining backend applications and services.
• Develop and maintain backend functionality using PHP/Laravel and Node.js.
• Write clean, maintainable, reusable and well-documented code.
• Assist with implementing new features, enhancements and bug fixes.
• Assist in developing, consuming and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Support integration with internal and third-party systems using REST and SOAP APIs.
• Use Postman for API testing, troubleshooting and validation.
• Use Git and GitHub for source-code management and version control.
• Create and manage branches, commits and pull requests in accordance with the team’s development workflow.
• Perform unit and functional testing of assigned development tasks.
• Use Postman and other appropriate tools to test APIs and backend functionality.
• Provide technical support for backend applications and integrations under the supervision of the Senior Backend Developer.
• Investigate reported application issues and assist in determining root causes.

Requirements

• First Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or another closely related discipline.
• Must have completed the NYSC programme and possess evidence of NYSC completion/exemption as applicable.
• 1–3 years of relevant professional experience in software/backend development.
• Practical experience with PHP/Laravel, JavaScript and/or Node.js.
• Experience developing, consuming or integrating RESTful APIs.
• Working knowledge of Git/GitHub, Postman and SQL/database concepts.
• Practical experience building applications with Laravel.
• Experience developing backend services with Node.js.
• Experience integrating third-party APIs.
