    Auto Mechanic (Cars, Pickups, etc.)

    Overview

    • The Auto Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles to ensure optimal performance and safety.
    • Working within the automotive department, the mechanic uses technical expertise, diagnostic tools, and manufacturer specifications to deliver high-quality repair and maintenance services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues
    • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, and fluid checks
    • Diagnose problems using computerized diagnostic equipment and manual testing methods
    • Repair or replace defective parts, including engines, transmissions, suspension systems, steering systems, and exhaust components
    • Test vehicles after repairs to ensure proper operation and safety standards are met
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and labor performed
    • Follow manufacturer guidelines, safety standards, and departmental procedures
    • Communicate clearly with service advisors or supervisors regarding repair needs and timelines
    • Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations

    Qualifications

    • OND, SSCE, Trade test or certificate of apprenticeship
    • Proven experience as an auto mechanic or automotive technician
    • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems and automotive repair techniques
    • Ability to use diagnostic tools, hand tools, and shop equipment

    • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
    • Attention to detail and accuracy
    • Time management and ability to meet deadlines
    • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy parts

    Supervisor, Auto Electrician

    Major Responsibilities
    Diagnostics & Repairs:

    • Diagnose electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and wiring diagrams
    • Repair or replace faulty wiring, fuses, relays, sensors, and control units

    Vehicle Electrical Systems:

    • Install, maintain, and repair:
      • Batteries and charging systems (alternators)
      • Starter motors and ignition systems
      • Vehicle lighting systems (headlights, indicators, brake lights)
      • Power windows, central locking systems, and mirrors
      • Dashboard instruments and warning systems

    Installation & Upgrades:

    • Install vehicle accessories such as:
      • Car alarms and immobilizers
      • Audio and navigation systems
      • GPS trackers and reversing cameras
    • Retrofit electrical components in older or modified vehicles

    Safety & Compliance:

    • Ensure strict adherence to workplace safety procedures
    • Handle electrical components safely to prevent damage or injury
    • Ensure compliance with roadworthiness standards and electrical regulations.
