    Project Officer – Promoting and Protecting Freedom of Religion and Belief in Nigeria (PP-FORB Nigeria)

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Coordinate and arrange all logistics for various meetings, and workshops, including invitations, venue, participants travel and accommodation while working with the logistics team to ensure that logistical management for project implementation is provided in real time
    • In collaboration with the line manager, facilitate the creation and implementation of a detailed annual work-plan, which identifies sequences of activities needed to successfully implement the project and ensure project objectives are met;
    • In collaboration with key stakeholders, facilitate the development and roll-out of detailed implementation plans at the State and National level;
    • Review the project schedule with the line Manager and all other staff that will be affected by the project activities; revise and regularly review the schedule as required;
    • Document project activities and ensure that all project data is appropriately secured;
    • Monitor the progress of the project implementation and make adjustments as necessary to ensure the project remains on track and is successfully implemented;
    • Establish a communication schedule to update stakeholders including appropriate staff in the organization on the progress of the project.
    • The Project Officer will document the program activities, the planning of different activities, under the supervision of the thematic experts.
    • Liaise with stakeholders as assigned by the project manager. 

    Educational Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Peacebuilding, Development Studies, Media & Communications or a related discipline (or equivalent experience,)

    Required Experience

    • A good understanding of  the North region of Nigeria, particularly in terms of key political, social, security and economic issues 
    • At least 2 year experience of project implementation, including engagement with several actors – governments, community, and religious leaders, civil society, governments, security organizations and specialist networks, etc.

    Other Relevant Requirements

    • Resident in Abuja, speaks local language Hausa fluently
    • Excellent diplomacy and interpersonal skills and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner, appreciating gender, cultural and ethnic diversity 
    • Attention to detail and ability to follow up on tasks to completion is required.
    • Ability to work autonomously and take initiative to generate valuable findings and communicate them in a timely manner.
    • Ability to efficiently create and send reports during critical times or deadlines.
    • Proficiency at using Microsoft office software: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc. is required.
    • Prior experience in advocacy, liaison and collaboration with donors, partners, security agencies, relevant government agencies, security forces and media is desirable.
    • Experience working in a conflict (hard to reach) environment is a plus.

    Training of Caregivers for Micro Income Generating Activities

    Under direct supervision of Search’s Project Manager on the Project with technical support from the PSS Officer, the Consultant will work with the Project Management team to coordinate and ensure the smooth training session. 

    Deliverables

    • The consultancy will be for a total of  3 days for each trade line -
    • Liquid Soap making and Local Crafts'
    • Conduct Training on liquid soap making
    • Conduct Training on purse making and other handicrafts.
    • Providing technical knowhow in cap making and knitting.
    • Linking caregivers with resources for the trained skills   
    • Support the caregivers to form a cooperative for better marketability of products and profit

    Requirements

    • Familiarity with location (i.e. MMC, Jere, Konduga, Mafa and Gwoza in Borno, North East Nigeria) and knowledge of the local languages in the target state.
    • At least two-years experience in providing basic life skill training for caregivers.  
    • Experience working with INGOs and other Donor Organizations in similar roles.
    • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards; with passion and enthusiasm.
    • Ability to beat date line
    • Ability to prioritize, plan and organize workflow to tight timeframes, multi-tasking, and flexibility.
    • Collaboration: The ability to work effectively with others in order to achieve a shared goal
    • Adaptability: The ability to remain fully functional by adapting to changing circumstances (environment, procedures and people).

    Budget and Terms of Engagement

    • The consultancy will begin the last week of  November  2022, all reports should be completed within 6 days after all agreement is met
    • The entire consultancy will cover a period of two weeks which includes training sessions and reports 
    • All statutory deductions will be removed at source from the total cost of the consultancy fee
    • All logistics arrangements should be built into the consultant's proposed cost

    The consultant is required to respect the following Ethical Principles:

    • Comprehensive and Systematic Inquiry: Consultant should make the most of the existing information and full range of stakeholders available at the time of the review. Consultant should conduct systematic, data-based inquiries. He or she should communicate his or her methods and approaches accurately and in sufficient detail to allow others to understand, interpret and critique his or her work. He or she should make clear the limitations of the review and its results.
    • Competence: Consultant should possess the abilities and skills and experience appropriate to undertake the tasks proposed and should practice within the limits of his or her professional training and competence.
    • Honesty and Integrity: Consultant should be transparent with the contractor/constituent about any conflict of interest, any change made in the negotiated project plan and the reasons why those changes were made, any risk that certain procedures or activities produce misleading review information.
    • Respect for People: Consultant respect the security, dignity, and self-worth of respondents, program participants. Consultant has the responsibility to be sensitive to and respect differences amongst participants in culture, religion, gender, disability, age, and ethnicity

    Selection Criteria - Consultant proposals will be selected for:

    • Relevance of proposed methodology to the goal, objectives, and research questions for the project.
    • Quality of proposed methods, conflict sensitivity approaches, and quality control measures.
    • Qualifications of the candidate(s).
    • Proposed budget in relation to proposed methodology, deliverables and team.
    • Timeline for proposed activities.
