    Workshop Supervisor

    Work Experience

    Job Description

    The workshop supervisor is responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the mechanical workshop.
    JOB DESCRIPTION IN DETAIL

    • Planning and monitoring Work within the workshop, supervising the Space Instrument makers
    • Undertaking manufacturing and assembly jobs during busy periods
    • Managing stock levels (e.g. materials, fixings and tooling)
    • Report on workloads, participating in project reviews and giving advice where necessary.
    • Carry out quality checks on vehicles repaired in the workshops.
    • Ensure good house-keeping and safety compliance at all time.
    • Ensure full utilization of workshop available labour and resources to achieve planned operational targets.
    • Supervise subordinates to produce quality work
    • Assist the staff technically and train them.
    • Allocate job cards and manage technicians.
    • Ensure that the technicians carry out the jobs within the allotted time.
    • Ensure the most effective use of available time and equipment.
    • Ensure all pre-orders are approved and obtains customer approval for all additional work
    • Ensure the workshop observes all warranty process conditions, and supervise the correct tagging and storage of warranty parts.
    • Ensure all required information on each job card for each job is properly maintained.
    • Give practical assistance, on-the-job training and technical advice to subordinates.
    • Inform the  Manager if necessary on any unclear working instructions or costly extensions on the repair
    • Carry out other job specific duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of ND in relevant discipline
    • Minimum of 7 years relevant work experience in Fleet Maintenance Operations; must have a level of competence relating to vehicle safety and legality either gained through experience or qualification.

    BASIC DESCRIPTION OF JOB
    To manage the Fleet Support Team and to ensure effective support is provided for the management of the company’s fleet

    JOB DESCRIPTION IN DETAILS

    • Manage the company’s fleet maintenance programme with emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenances.
    • Oversee all vehicle maintenance arrangements.
    • Manage the technical department staff.
    • Assist in the recruitment of technical staff.
    • Oversee the process for ad-hoc and routine vehicle maintenance.
    • Provide direction and instructions on all technical matters.
    • Review the maintenance operations and system constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems on time and identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Conduct employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge and contribution of the maintenance technicians.
    • Evaluate payment requests for repairs and inspection of work in progress.
    • Ensure that maintenance technicians are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that the maintenance schedule can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost effective manner.
    • Provide direction and instructions on all technical matters.
    • Ensure that all fleet and support personnel adhere to safe working practices.
    • Oversee the process for ad-hoc and routine vehicle maintenance.

    Requirements

    • Strong background and work experience in Fleet Management and Maintenance.
    • OND, HND or Bsc in any related discipline.
    • Excellent computer skills and proficient in MS Office Suite.
    • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
    • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
    • Budget development and oversight experience
    • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
    • Excels at operating in a fast paced work environment
    • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
