Job Summary

Conduct financial and operational audits and special reviews, with a focus on supporting the Country Head of internal audit in assuring management and the Board on Compliance with policies and procedures, as well as the effectiveness of risk management processes and the control environment.

Job Objectives

• To provide leadership to the analysts in the validation of financial statements
• To ensure improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of the internal operations of the organization

Job Responsibilities

• Support the Team Lead in the development and monitoring execution of the Financial & Operational Audit Plan
• Ensure team members possess the required skills to conduct financial audits
• Ensure that audit procedures are strictly adhered to, including identifying and defining issues, developing criteria, reviewing and analysing evidence, and documenting processes and procedures
• Evaluate financial records and establish risk-based audit programs
• Review and validate the financial & operational audit report prepared by the team
• Make recommendations to enhance the internal control system
• Perform and manage ad hoc or special audit assignments, investigations as instructed by the Group Head of Audit
• Ensure full utilization of Audit tools throughout the audit assignments
• Oversee and manage the work of the financial and operational audit analysts
• Communicate the results, findings, and recommendations of audit projects via written reports and face-to-face presentations on a timely basis to the team lead, Unit MD, and the Audit Committee
• Maintain all organisational and professional ethical standards and ensure internal audit activities are carried out in compliance with International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards) and IIA Code of Ethics.
• Perform peer quality reviews as requested by the Team lead.
• Ensure risk assessment is updated to reflect identified controls that will impact the residual risk score.
• Perform and manage ad hoc or special audit assignments and investigations
• Identify training needs of direct reports and recommend training courses/programs
• Work with process owners to review management’s response to external audit management letter recommendations; monitor progress on plans to address them, and perform follow-up
• Assist in the internal audit engagement planning process

Requirements

Educational Qualification

• B Sc. or HND in Accounting or any related discipline
• A master’s degree in accounting or an MBA will be an added advantage

Professional Qualification

Membership of the following professional bodies is required: Certified Institute of Auditors (CIA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Certified Public Accountants (CPA)

Desired Experience and Competencies

• Minimum of 7 years’ Financial and Operational Audit work experience
• Big 4, Global corporate, or international work experience is a distinct advantage.
• Experience across multiple industries/markets, e.g., Manufacturing, Energy, Utilities etcetera. International work experience is an added advantage

• Good understanding of Financial Controls.
• Good knowledge and understanding of finance best practices, IFRS, ICFR, and other applicable accounting and regulatory standards.

• Attention to detail, critical thinking, and analytical skills

Key Duties and Responsibility

• Conduct feasibility studies, including risk assessments and environmental impact evaluations, to ensure the viability of mining projects.
• Oversee and optimize extraction processes, utilizing various mining techniques to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Collaborate with geologists to assess the composition and distribution of mineral deposits.
• Develop detailed mining plans, including schedule, resource allocation, and budgeting for projects.
• Monitor operational performance and implement strategies to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
• Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements while promoting a culture of safety in mining operations.
• Train and supervise engineering teams and other personnel, fostering skills development and technical expertise.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
• At least 9 - 12 years of experience in mining operations or engineering.
• Proficient in mining software and design tools.
• Strong understanding of mining laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to work in challenging environments and under tight deadlines.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Continually control and monitor plant performance through measurement and analysis through the use of standard tools, benchmarking and pre-defined Company indicators to be used for tracking.
• Optimise and adapt the production process and equipment in line with the Company’s improvement program/ action plans.
• Monitor production performance including cost & volumes of raw materials, energy & fuels, effective utilisation of equipment/machines and ensure alignment with planned production targets, delivery targets, profitability targets and other key performance measures. 
• Implement appropriate strategies, plans and programmes for producing quality products and achieving set levels of Plant capacity utilisation and efficiency. 
• Develop and enforce policies and procedures for production methods, quality and safety.
• Develop plans and processes which minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. 
• Create safe work conditions and mobilize all plant employees and contractors on safety at work.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Plant Director.
• Key Requirements

Education and Work Experience

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in any discipline.
• Professional degree/ qualification such as MBA is required.
• Minimum of 15 years experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management level. 

Skills and Behaviours

• In-depth knowledge of cement production processes.
• Strong knowledge of the cement industry (local and international) including the trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations and legislations relating to the cement manufacturing industry.
• Very good understanding of technical problems in order to decide appropriate action in line with Company policy and industrial strategy in the following domains:
  • Operation and Maintenance Management Systems (SAP experience is helpful).Process Management
