    Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW)

    JOB PURPOSE

    The role holder is responsible for assisting Nurses/Midwives and Doctors in the management of patients, according to Nurse/Midwives and Doctors’ directives, universal hygiene standards and INTEROS protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Promotes, implements and adheres to the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensures high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality always.
    • Organises and carries out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
    • Support nutrition services such as OTP activities, IYCF counselling, MUAC screening.
    • Ensures patients are properly received and that those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and comfort.
    • Ensures reception and triage of patients in waiting areas, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor where necessary
    • Sends material to be sterilized and carefully store them after sterilization
    • Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e., assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency or deterioration)
    • Carries administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.).
    • Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/nurses/supervisors informed.
    • Participates in the department-related activities such as pharmacy management, IYCF activities
    • Performs cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    • Supervises and supports training of volunteers, cleaners and other related staff, while ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Candidate most obtain Minimum of a Diploma of CHEW, Applicants should have at least 2 years post qualifying experience and in possession of a valid practicing certificate.

    Feeding Assistant

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Feeding Assistant will participate in the nutritional case management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under supervision of the nutritional nurse and according to INTERSOS nutritional and hygiene protocols in order to improve health conditions of the targeted population.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Carry out basic health care (swabbing, applying local treatments, etc.) following the rules on hygiene and asepsis.
    • Inform caretakers on the functioning of the center: lay out, daily activity plan (number and frequency of the meals, medical
    • visit, weight measurement, etc.) and other general information.
    • Distribute meals according to medical prescriptions for each patient, ensuring that no other food is given in phase 1 and
    • maintain hygienic conditions while doing this.
    • Report on daily basis intakes of the patients under nutritional treatment.
    • Guides the implementation of PSS programming with a focus on technical aspects and quality assurance through close
    • Stimulate mothers to breast-feed.
    • Monitor and report weight and other vital indicators, if necessary, (temperature, heart and respiratory rates) of each patient.
    • Report the nurse pathologic symptoms such as, apathetic, anorexia, not drinking, vomiting, fever, dehydration, diarrhea, etc.
    • Apply the correct procedures in the event of a fever (damping down, providing liquids, etc.) or hypothermia (kangaroo method, survival blanket, etc.).
    • Supervise drinking water availability in the ward, and ensure it is well identified.
    • Supervise premises and materials remain clean.
    • Provide hygienic training and sanitation education to children, mothers and the targeted population.
    • Prepare RESOMAL.

    • Minimum of two (2) years professional experience as feeding Assistant.
    • Prior experience in an INGO is required.

    Nurse/Midwife

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, the role holder will provides medical care, treatment, and follows-up on patients according to set protocols and universal hygiene standards/precautions. Role-holder provides supportive supervision to staff/volunteers, MoH staff, and ensures guidelines set in the health protocols are followed during the provision of medical care.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure the implementation and continuity of Antenatal and Postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and wound care in accordance with INTERSOS Reproductive Care Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardized protocols.
    • Collaborate with the medical and/or Nurse in the management of sexual Violence cases.
    • Provide counselling session for the patients and beneficiaries of ANC, PNC and IYCF.
    • Assess the feasibility for referral of pregnant women from the TBAs to the BEmONC facility for medical evaluation and/or complication deliveries.
    • Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to INTERSOS specifications.
    • Ensures timely supported referrals to the nearest CEMONC Facility.
    • Properly follow up on all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about the importance of breastfeeding, vaccination, and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.

    Nutrition Officer

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the overall supervision of the Nutrition Activity Manager, in coordination with Clinical Supervisor, Medical Activity Managers and Deputy Medical Coordinator, the Nutrition Officer will be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Nutrition interventions in assigned field locations, the role supports the implementation of nutrition activities within the area of intervention. The role-holder supervises and trains field level nutrition staff, performs monitoring and support supervision of field activities, guides LGA partners on program planning and participates in staff capacity building. S/he coordinates the implementation of Severe Acute Malnutrition, Moderate Acute Malnutrition practices and other supportive Nutrition programs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Implements a comprehensive maternal infant and young child nutrition program (MIYCN) Baby Friendly Community initiative (BFCI) approach.
    • Provides technical support to CMAM and BSFP program component within the community including ensuring awareness sessions, screening and tracking.
    • Develops and supervises an effective mother to mother support group within the area of implementation.
    • Trains and mentors the emergency response program staff and the integrated community health promoters through the identification of capacity gaps and carrying out refresher trainings and on the job trainings.
    • Develops key messages in nutrition to the targeted beneficiaries, and ensure it is delivered appropriately.
    • Offers nutrition support through counseling to individuals with medical conditions including Comprehensive Care for Clinic clients.
    • Conducts and Supervises nutrition-specific value-adding activities (SBCC, Home gardening, food hygiene promotion etc.
    • Implements a social behavioral change communication strategy at the community level.
    • Plans and conducts mass MUAC screening of the under-fives on a quarterly basis in collaboration with the Community Health volunteers.
    • Compiles and submits donor and INTERSOS Nutrition Program weekly, biweekly and monthly reports of all the activities implemented, as well as prepare food requisitions.
    • Liaises with Supply Chain Department in Program Supplies procurement and Monitoring Supply control.
    • Supports MOH on DQAs- Data quality assessments.
    • Supervises regular follow up and management of malnutrition cases at the OTP/SC

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Relevant degree in one of the following areas: medicine, health, and nutrition.
    • Minimum of three (3) years relevant professional work experience, in implementation of health and nutrition

    Laboratory Scientist

    JOB PURPOSE

    The Lab scientist will be responsible for ensuring that all laboratory services provided in the Stabilization Centre are in accordance with the national guidelines and meet the minimum standards for good laboratory services.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • S/He will be responsible for establishing and/or supervising all laboratories and laboratory services within the Stabilization centre project in Dikwa and Magumeri.
    • S/He will supervise and ensure the laboratory services provided in these health facilities
    • include basic screening tests for blood-borne diseases, grouping and cross-matching of blood, and that all blood and blood products are in line with established standards and are free of any
    • known transmissible infections.

    • Must have experience in sample collection of various laboratory samples.
    • Must have experience in hematological, chemical pathological and microbiological analysis

    • Knowledge of all basic laboratory techniques and quality control systems is very essential to this role.

    Medical Doctor

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, s/he will provide professional technical advice input in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities as well as to improve the health condition of the target population. Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, existing and validated protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.

    Stabilization Centre Supervisor

    JOB PURPOSE

    The position holder is overall responsible to lead the Therapeutic Feeding Unit (TFU)/stabilization centre component of Community Based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) implementation in the LGA and working closely with the LGA health workers, and SC colleagues for the effective implementation and linkage of CMAM program with the community and facility. In addition, the position holder is also expected to provide consistent and high-quality technical support in relation to CMAM implementation and will assist Nutrition field workers, and other staff in the Stabilization Centre to build a strong CMAM implementation package.

    Scope of Work

    The Stabilization Centre Supervisor’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the centre is functioning properly, providing care of quality including medical diagnosis and treatment of the patients presenting medical complications. Ensures the respect and correct application of the treatment protocols.

    Dimensions of Role

    The incumbent will be overall responsible for diagnosing complicated SAM cases using physical examinations and different laboratory tests in the SC in collaboration with other INTERSOS nutrition staff and SMOH staff. Based on their findings, prescribe required treatment and medications to attempt to heal any illnesses or injuries as per SAM inpatient management protocol of Nigeria and World Health Organization.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Examines patients/clients in line with standard medical procedures using various types of diagnostic mechanisms;
    • Compiles weekly and monthly reports and submits to Medical Activity Manager, INTERSOS Nutrition supervisor and hospital/state leadership
    • Stock management in collaboration with Pharmacy.
    • Ensure patients feeding needs are taken care of in line with their daily dietary needs in collaboration with the project manager and the H&N manager and works to ensure meals distributed on time and in respectful quantity.
    • Supervise the use of medicines, medical supplies, and nutrition related commodities and data tools in the SC
    • Ensure timely collection, compilation, and analysis of quality data as well as production of quantitative and qualitative reports regarding all INTERSOS activities
    • Evaluate regularly the impact of the activities and propose changes for improvement.
    • Support the supply chain management and forecast for medicines, Medical supplies, Nutrition commodities (F-75, F-100, ReSoMal) and data tools
    • Monitor the stock of commodities, medicines, medical supplies: calculate needs, decide quantities to be delivered to the stabilization center.
    • Plan logistics and materials needs for the SC
    • Participate in stakeholder meetings on crosscutting health issues.
    • Checks the pharmacy’s correct drug preparation, storage and stock balance etc
    • Build staff capacity in work plan development and reporting to ensure accurate monitoring and documentation of activities
    • Contribute to strengthening relationship with Borno State ministry of health and hospital management board, UNICEF and other partners implementing CMAM in the state.
    • Administers and prescribes drugs based on analysis of examination, test reports and findings and counseling services as National and WHO SAM inpatient management protocol. Providing technical support and gap-filling support when needed.
    • Manages the project unit's implementation of nutrition program in agreement with the overall CMAM Program activities specially Stabilization centre/ therapeutic feeding unit and theNational manual in the management of SAM,
    • Holds responsibility for stabilization center staff team’s timesheet, work plan vacation schedules and staff training/development activities
    • Makes sure that stabilization centre/TFC care is implemented according to the National protocol and WHO guideline i.e. application of the admission and discharge criteria, complication treatment, therapeutic feeding, closely monitors and strictly follows anthropometry measurement
    • Ensures the availability of job aids, reporting formats, therapeutic products (F75, F100 and RUTF) and drugs for program implementation in the SC
    • Work closely with Nutrition Supervisor and community mobilization officer to ensure all aspects of the program are understood and agreed and appropriate referrals take place to and from the community to OTP and SC sites.
    • Work closely with other partners implementing OTP for proper referral and monitoring of beneficiaries at OTP level
    • Ensure the multi-chart/inpatient card has properly filled and monitored and corrective action has taken on daily basis.
    • Makes sure that health professionals from the health facilities to participate on the daily routine work for sustainability and smooth phase out strategy.
    • Ensure all criteria are respected and understood by the teams, including admission, discharge and transfer to and from the OTP/SC.
    • Ensure all children in SC are immunized according to the national protocols.
    • Ensure correctness, consistence and completeness of the information in the nutrition registers.
    • Ensure adequate availability of all medical and food supplies and ensure stock is pre- positioned as planned by discussing with logistics.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding the technical aspects of the program admission and discharge whenever necessary at the SC sites.
    • Performs other related tasks as required, like control and facilitation of vehicle movement within the project area in the field Prepare and submit regular monthly and quarterly logistic activity reports to the project/office managers.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor’s degree in medicine (MB.BS/MBChB) with experience in emergency nutrition response especially in complicated SAM management at the Stabilization centre level and clinical experience in the management of children under five at the in-patient level.
    • Over (3) years of experience in complicated SAM case management in SC and CMAM programs.
    • Valid and current practicing license.
    • Excellent report-writing skills
    • Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa, Kanuri is a plus.
    • Commitment to and understanding of INTERSOS’S aims, values, and principles.

    To supervise the smooth running of SRH activities, including supervision of BEmONC activities, to ensure 24/7 efficient, effective, and quality care delivered to all patients/clients admitted into INTERSOS SRH program, in collaboration with the Clinic supervisor, Doctors, and MOH by respecting and adhering to INTERSOS and MOH SRH protocols & guidelines.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Prepare monthly rosters for midwives and other SRH supporting staff.
    • To supervise and coordinate the work of the midwives involved in the activity with close consultation of her line supervisor.
    • Participates in job training of all midwives and SRH-related staff.
    • Defines the training needs of the midwife and SRH-related staff according to project objectives and potential.
    • Assign responsibilities to the staff under her supervision and actively involve in ward rounds, deliveries, ANCs, and PNC.
    • Responsible for hygiene and universal precautions in health facilities according to protocols and in cooperation with the logistics department and your line manager, Knows and implements accidental exposure policy.
    • Supervises all minor surgical procedures, dressing, sterilization, and injection services related to delivery, ANC, PNC patients in the health facilities.
    • Ensures that basic delivery plans are adhered to by delivery, ANC, PNC including BEmONC that prescriptions and protocols are respected.
    • Ensures that all pregnant women and newborn children are referred to the Extended Program on Immunization (EPI). Consider making this post-primary responsible for all EPI.
    • Supervises daily routine activities in the delivery ward, ANC, and PNC and supports his/her team members when there is a gap.
    • Ensure capacity building and implements training of midwife and maternity staff.
    • Ensures relevant transfer of information from one duty team to another.
    • Ensures that all midwife and maternity staff promotes and maintains confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records.
    • To ensure all the administrative procedures and documents are used correctly, as well as existing data management tools.
    • To ensure and identify the needs of the logistic in the ANC, PNC, and Delivery and report to the line manager.
    • Flexibility of roster at night and day if needed.
    • Ensure prescriptions and drug administration according to protocols are respected.
    • Identifies possible victims of SGBV and refers them for treatment according to protocols.
    • Participates in emergency activity or exploratory visit in or out of the project area if needed.
    • Ensures that recording in individual patient’s card and registration books of all nursing activities are performed correctly.
    • Ensures that all data management tools are used and are updated properly.
    • Ensure that inventories of all material and equipment used exist and are updated.
    • Ensure cleanliness of midwife areas, maternity and delivery rooms.
    • Preparation of weekly data collection as well as monthly data.
    • Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines (SitReps, medical statistics, etc.) being responsible for this for all SRH activities - collection and analysis of med stats)
    • Informs line manager of any problems that might be linked to work of midwife or maternity staff as well as problematic equipment or material (ex. broken, missing).
    • Participate in meetings with other supervisors in order to ensure smooth collaboration of all departments in terms of activities running.
    • Participate in meetings in health facility with INTERSOS & MOH staff and collaborators.
    • Participates in the monthly reports according to guidelines, i.e. Situation Reports (SitReps), medical statistical reports, etc.
    • Informs other medical managers or doctors about any possible serious problems or complications regarding INTERSOS SRH patients.
    • Monitors and supervises weekly and monthly consumption of drugs as well as inventories in collaboration with pharmacy supervisor to ensure efficient drug consumption's and management.
    • Trains and supervises maternity staff regarding the proper use of drugs, needs and consumptions.
    • Supervises and ensures that counselling services are done appropriately following protocols.
    • Works in collaboration with the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for all IEC activities.
    • Ensure that transmission by HIV or other STIs is avoided with the help of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and the use of condoms while trying to respect local traditions.
    • Knows SGBV protocol and ensure that it is implemented.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Diploma in Nursing from and accredited institution.
    • A Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification experience in a similar environment/humanitarian context.
    • Possession of a valid practicing Licenses.
    • Leadership, people management, and development, teamwork, and cooperation
    • Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory), Hausa and Kanuri.
    • Respect and adherence to protection principles
    • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…).
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
    • Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.

    Nutrition Assistant

    JOB PURPOSE

    The position holder is overall responsible for providing quality Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) – E services at community and facility levels. The incumbent will engage in and will work with other team members in the delivery of optimal infant and young child feeding in emergency.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create awareness and sensitize the community on CMAM practices, IYCF, malnutrition, and the causes of malnutrition and treatment of malnutrition.
    • Participate in the screening of children less than five years, referral and follow up of malnourished beneficiaries at the community level.
    • Implement sensitization activities for targeted communities about CMAM, IYCF with support from MOH, community leaders and other key stakeholders at LGA level.
    • Ensure timely submission of weekly reports, monthly reports and MUAC screening data & reports to nutrition officers for compilation.
    • Organize and lead the formation of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups for IYCF with the support of IYCF/Nutrition Officer.
    • Ensure strong communication links with all other CMAM staff, providing advice and support to all other staff members on infant and young child feeding issues as and when they arise.
    • Conduct education sessions within the surrounding community on the importance of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices in conjunction with community mobilisers.
    • Aid in establishing care group approach (CGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend knowledge of good infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
    • Support in recruiting care group promoters across the catchment area of the project intervention.
    • Conduct care group training in collaboration with care group facilitators for the care group promoters.
    • Improve on the linkages between the care group beneficiaries with primary health care and community management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) program and other ongoing programs in the community where applicable.
    • Participate in surveillance activities including home visit to monitor nutrition situation and program activities.
    • Participate in direct skilled IYCF support services including Growth Promotion and Monitoring at IYCF corners/spaces and other contact points.
    • Organize and participate in food demonstration sessions periodically.
    • Conduct regular focus group discussions with beneficiaries to assess barriers to optimal IYCF uptake. Ensure Gender mainstreaming in nutrition, and integration of other sectors.
    • Support the development of case studies and success stories from program implementation.
    • Support other nutrition activities as necessary.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience as Nutrition Assistant.
    • Prior experience in an INGO is required.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory)
