    Gender Specialist

    Background

    • Green Habitat Initiative is planning to pilot a small-scale solar-powered hydroponics system as a strategic solution to address the convergence of issues stemming from climate change, insecurity, and food security in Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria. Hydroponics is expected to reduce reliance on unpredictable weather patterns, especially erratic rainfall due to climate change, and can be operated within controlled environments, shielding farmers from the vagaries of violent conflicts and insecurity that have disrupted traditional farming practices.
    • The aim of this project is to enhance sustainable agriculture and community resilience by introducing functional hydroponics systems, providing secured livelihoods, imparting agricultural and technical expertise, offering localised adaptation solutions, and fostering climate-resilient practices, ultimately contributing to improved food security and reduced conflict risks in the target community.
    • As such, the Green Habitat Initiative (GHI) is currently seeking to engage a Gender Expert on a contract basis to support a climate-smart agricultural project.

    Role Summary

    • The Gender Expert will work closely with the program manager and Technical Leads to ensure that principles of gender equality and social inclusion are integrated into all aspects of project design and implementation. S/he will provide programmatic and technical support to the project team, government counterparts, and other stakeholders on the effective integration of GESI considerations, specifically emphasising the equity and inclusion of marginalised groups such as women, youths, and PLWDs.

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct gender analysis and planning, ensuring that project activities consider and address the specific needs and challenges of different genders and marginalised groups.
    • Work closely with the program manager to ensure the strategic integration of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) considerations into all project design and implementation aspects.
    • Interact with local stakeholders to collect and evaluate data related to gender dynamics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the social context.

    Minimum Requirements

    • You must have an advanced degree (Master's and/or Ph.D., etc) in a relevant field to qualify for this.
    • You must have extensive experience conducting GESI assessments and analysis.

    Qualifications and Required Experiences:

    • Master’s Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Gender, or other relevant education is a requirement.
    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of gender equality and gender mainstreaming is a requirement.
    • Formal training in gender analysis and gender planning and demonstrated expertise in mainstreaming gender in projects and programs is a requirement.
    • Excellent abilities to interact with local stakeholders, collect and evaluate data, and transform the information into high-quality documentation tangible to the target audience are highly desired.
    • Experience with the use of project management software (e.g., Clickup, Slack, etc) is desirable.
    • Hausa Language skills are a requirement.

    • Excellent interpersonal, consensus-building, and negotiating skills are essential.

    Project Manager

    Position Summary

    • As the PM, you will be responsible for the overall delivery of the technical assistance. Your outputs must be in line with GHI and donor’s expectations as will be set out. You will oversee the activities and outputs of all staff appointed to support the technical assistance. You shall report the progress of the work to the Project Director/Team Leader of the technical assistance accordingly.

    Expected Results:

    • At the end of the TA, it is expected that GHI will support its partners in designing a small-scale and household hydroponics system that supports smallholder farmers in the planning and execution of their farming activities.
    • The technology will be tested and evaluated by its targeted beneficiaries, and it must meet a high-quality standard. The capacity of the farmers needs to be effectively built on how to use the system.

    Administrative Officer

    Job Summary

    • The Administrative Officer with I.T. and/or Finance skills will play a crucial role in supporting the operational efficiency of the organization by managing administrative tasks, managing human resources needs, assisting with financial management processes and providing support with IT needs such as our website.
    • The ideal candidate will be a versatile team player, detail-oriented, possess strong organisational skills, demonstrate proficiency in finance-related duties and be interested in ICT.
    • While he/she will be stationed at our HQ in Abuja, the person is expected to extend the support and functions across all our project offices across the country.

    Key Responsibilities
    Administrative Duties:

    • Oversee day-to-day administrative tasks, including but not limited to managing office supplies, handling correspondence, and maintaining filing systems.
    • Manage human resource needs such as overseeing contract administrations, reviewing staff and staffing needs, and providing them support as necessary.
    • Coordinate logistics for meetings, workshops, and events, including venue booking, catering arrangements, and equipment setup.

    Information Technology (I.T.) Support:

    • Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend solutions to enhance organisational efficiency.

    Qualifications

    • A Degree in Management, Administration, or a related field is required.
    • A master’s degree is required. Preferably an MBA.
    • Proven experience in administrative roles with some experience in finance functions and/or IT, preferably in the non-profit sector.

Collaborating on design, installation, and maintenance, the specialists will lead and contribute their expertise to optimise nutrient solutions, monitor plant health, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

    Role Summary

    • Under the overall supervision of the Project manager, the MEL Specialist will perform activities related to monitoring, evaluation, and learning for the project, including organising and implementing data collection and analysis for the project.
    • He/she will serve as a point of contact for data collection and aggregation that supports project reporting and will provide inputs to inform project decision-making and adaptive management.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic oversight of the monitoring and evaluation activities, ensuring alignment with project objectives and contributing to the project's overall success.
    • Design, develop, and implement monitoring and evaluation tools.
    • Organise and implement data collection activities, both qualitative and quantitative, and perform detailed data analysis to derive actionable insights.
    • Serve as a point of contact for data collection and aggregation, supporting project reporting requirements with accurate and timely data.
    • Provide inputs derived from monitoring and evaluation activities to inform project decision-making and adaptive management, promoting evidence-based strategies.

    Qualifications and Required Experiences

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Economics, Social Sciences, Engineering,or similar is mandatory.
    • A minimum of 3 years of directly applicable experience in providing management advisory services and hands-on experience in the design of monitoring and evaluation tools at the systemic level in development contexts is a requirement.
    • Knowledge of and experience in planning is desired.
    • Proven experience with statistical applications and data analysis; familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative information analysis tools is a requirement.
    • Excellent interpersonal, consensus-building, and negotiating skills are essential.
    • Team building and collaboration experience with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
    • Fluency in Microsoft Excel, specifically: Ability to design basic data-entry spreadsheets in “database format” with useful data validation. You will extract summary statistics using Pivot Tables and Excel Formulae and conduct analysis using statistics, logic, and validation formulae.
    • Practical experience creating survey tools for field data collection and managing a field-based research team.
    • Knowledge of electronic data collection platforms (e.g., ODK, SurveyCTO, CommCare).
    • Preferably experience with statistical software packages such as Stata, or R.
