    Nutrition Assistant

    JOB PURPOSE

    He/She is responsible for providing quality Infant & Young Child Feeding (IYCF) – E services at community and facility levels. The incumbent will engage in and will work with other team members in the delivery of optimal infant and young child feeding in emergency.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create awareness and sensitize the community on CMAM practices, IYCF, malnutrition, and the causes of malnutrition and
      treatment of malnutrition.
    • Participate in the screening of children less than five years, referral and follow up of malnourished beneficiaries at the community
      level.
    • Implement sensitization activities for targeted communities about CMAM, IYCF with support from MOH, community leaders and
      other key stakeholders at LGA level.
    • Ensure timely submission of weekly reports, monthly reports and MUAC screening data & reports to nutrition officers for
      compilation.
    • Organize and lead the formation of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups for IYCF with the support of IYCF/Nutrition Officer.
    • Ensure strong communication links with all other CMAM staff, providing advice and support to all other staff members on infant
      and young child feeding issues as and when they arise.
    • Conduct education sessions within the surrounding community on the importance of infant and young child feeding (IYCF)
      practices in conjunction with community mobilisers.
    • Aid in establishing care group approach (CGs) within the community to provide additional support for mothers and extend
      knowledge of good infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices.
    • Support in recruiting care group promoters across the catchment area of the project intervention.
    • Conduct care group training in collaboration with care group facilitators for the care group promoters.
    • Improve on the linkages between the care group beneficiaries with primary health care and community management of acute
      malnutrition (CMAM) program and other ongoing programs in the community where applicable.
    • Participate in surveillance activities including home visit to monitor nutrition situation and program activities.
    • Participate in direct skilled IYCF support services including Growth Promotion and Monitoring at IYCF corners/spaces and other
      contact points.
    • Organize and participate in food demonstration sessions periodically.
    • Conduct regular focus group discussions with beneficiaries to assess barriers to optimal IYCF uptake.
    • Ensure Gender mainstreaming in nutrition, and integration of other sectors.
    • Support the development of case studies and success stories from program implementation.
    • Support other nutrition activities as necessary.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Medical Doctor

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, s/he will provide professional technical advice input in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients and their communities as well as to improve the health condition of the target population. Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, existing and validated protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Applies medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and/or inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting protocols in targeted HF and in mobile clinic activities.
    • Possesses Knowledge of and ensures all medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control.
    • Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
    • To assess and make the necessary arrangements for patients who need advanced care that is not available at INTERSOS health facility and have to be referred.
    • Assists in response and management of any health and nutrition emergency and participate in the development of disaster preparedness systems.
    • Promotes mother infant and young child feeding best practices in various health facilities.
    • Participates actively in planned program Rapid Health and Nutrition assessment/surveys.
    • Reviews personnel issues and concerns of health and nutrition staff and assist with determining and implementing solutions.
    • Participates in recruitment of health and nutrition program staff as appropriate.
    • Supervises the use of materials, equipment and supplies for the intervention.
    • Identifies opportunities for program development.
    • And perform any other task as assigned.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Required Profile/Experience

    • MBBS Degree from and accredited institution.
    • Professional Licence to Practice by the appropriate professional bodies.
    • A Minimum of Three (3) years post-qualification experience in a similar environment/humanitarian context
    • Possession of a valid practicing Licenses
    • Leadership, people management, and development, teamwork, and cooperation
    • Fluency in spoken and written English (Mandatory), Hausa and Kanuri.
    • Respect and adherence to protection principles
    • Essential computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, internet, etc…).
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
    • Willing to work extra hours and available at the weekend for emergency cases.
    • Capacity to work under pressure and willingness to work and live in a complex context.
    • Work within the framework of IINTERSOS Nigeria’s core values.
    • Act as an ambassador for INTERSOS Nigeria, through professionalism and conduct.
    • Adhere to all INTERSOS policies and procedures both technical and administrational.

    Midwife

    JOB PURPOSE

    Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, the role provides medical care, treatment, and follows-up on patients according to set protocols and universal hygiene standards/precautions. Role-holder provides supportive supervision to staff/volunteers, MoH staff, and ensures guidelines set in the health protocols are followed during the provision of medical care.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ensure the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC), neonatal and comprehensive abortion care, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and wound care in accordance with INTERSOS Reproductive Care Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardized protocols.
    • Collaborate with the medical doctor and/or nurse in the management of Sexual violence cases.
    • Provide counseling session for patients and beneficiaries on ANC, PNC, IYCF.
    • Assess the feasibility for referral of pregnant women from the TBAs to the BEmONC facility for medical evaluation and/or complicated deliveries.
    • Ensure hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to INTERSOS specifications.
    • Ensures timely supported referrals to the nearest CEMONC Facility.
    • Properly follow up on all newborn babies from delivery until discharge, informing mothers and relatives about the importance of breastfeeding, vaccination, and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
    • Promotes and implements the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention, and infection control, security rules and other procedures in the medical premises and ensures a safe working environment in the targeted HF and in the mobile clinic. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality always.
    • Organizes out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, performing consultations and other minor medical procedures. Participating in the health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
    • Supervises administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), and reports problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.
    • At least 2 years post-qualifying experience in a similar environment/Humanitarian context
    • Possession of a valid practicing certificate
    • Essential computer literacy (word, excel, and internet)
    • Leadership, people management, and development, teamwork, and cooperation
    • Service Orientation.
    • Understanding of humanitarian operations principles, standards, and best practices
    • Manages effectively his/her own time as well as flexible and available to work overtime when needed.
    • Good command of written and spoken English, Kanuri, and Hausa Languages
    • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills and excellence as a team player
    • Honesty and integrity and able to cope with stressful situations.
