    Head of Compliance and Risk

    About the Role

    • As Head of Compliance & Risk, you will develop a comprehensive regulatory compliance framework and be responsible for implementing and maintaining processes, systems and controls to ensure Paystack’s compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
    • You also develop and manage an enterprise risk framework that will provide insights into our risks.
    • We’re looking for a leader who will lead the buildout and scaling of our compliance program, serve as a key member of the Paystack leadership team and partner to the business, and who will elevate the ambitions of Paystack.
    • The ideal candidate will come from “start-up” like environments, be mission-driven, a clear communicator with a solid background in the payments space.
    • The role is remote-friendly with frequent travel to Nigeria, and expansion markets required. 

    What you'll be doing
    You'll:

    • Develop, implement and maintain a global framework of policies and procedures for managing and mitigating operational and compliance risks, in line with laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions
    • Develop, implement and maintain an enterprise risk framework.
    • Design and implement relevant compliance processes including know your customer (KYC), anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions and combatting the financing of terrorism (CFT)
    • Perform risk assessments to understand enterprise risks
    • Master a deep understanding of the rules and regulations governing each market in which we operate, including monitoring any changes and developments
    • Oversee the gathering of internal information to meet external regulatory reporting obligations
    • Supervise the fulfillment of all record keeping requirements
    • Investigate irregularities and non-compliance issues
    • Act as a point-of-contact for all employees on issues relating to money laundering, terrorist financing and receive reports on non-compliance with laws or company policies
    • Compile regular reports on risk and compliance performance that can be shared with management or the board of directors so that issues can be rectified
    • Support our product and market expansion initiatives by overseeing efforts to apply for new licenses where needed
    • Ensure regular information dissemination and coordinate training across the company on compliance issues
    • Review marketing materials, presentations and websites to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Oversee any internal and external audits or regulatory examinations
    • Manage third party vendor risk reviews and vendor due diligence
    • Collaborate with other departments to create a culture of compliance across the company

    Requirements
    What it takes to succeed at this role:

    • 8+ years in a senior regulatory and compliance role
    • Experience in payments/financial services
    • Ability to develop deep relationships with regulators (Central Banks or other regulatory bodies) across multiple jurisdictions
    • Excellent sense of judgment – able to help steer the company to balance innovation and growth with regulatory compliance
    • Critical problem-solving skills
    • Ability to thrive, adapt and embrace change in rapidly-changing regulatory environments
    • Deep knowledge of global payments compliance regulation – PCI DSS, PSD2, GDPR, card scheme rules, etc.

    Nice-to-haves:

    • Master's Degree in either Economics / Business / Law (preferred)
    • Relevant course, done through ICA (International Compliance Association)
    • Experience in Nigeria (or Africa)
    • ACAMS certification.

    About the Head of Internal Audit Role

    • As Head of Internal Audit, you will be building the team responsible for providing objective assurance on the design and operational effectiveness of Paystack’s internal controls and business processes, compliance with laws and regulations and risk management framework and other governance processes.
    • In addition, you will be responsible for providing advisory services in the form of targeted analyses, model evaluations, systems design assessments, and policy reviews.
    • We’re looking for a leader who will lead the buildout and scaling of our audit program, serve as a key member of the Paystack leadership team and partner to the business, and who will elevate the ambitions of Paystack.
    • The role is remote-friendly with frequent travel to Nigeria, and expansion markets required and reports to Paystack’s Head of Finance.

    What you'll be doing
    You'll:

    • Develop the annual and longer-term strategy for a risk-based audit plan shaped for Paystack’s expanding global operations and regulatory requirements.
    • Scale the audit program to encompass regulatory compliance requirements governing regulated entities. 
    • Plan and execute audits of business processes subject to regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., AML, KYC, sanctions, safeguarding, data privacy), financial partner requirements (e.g., GARS), independent audit for financial reporting, etc.
    • Lead ad-hoc programs and initiatives to provide advisory insights.
    • Work seamlessly with key business partners within the second lines of defense to build efficiencies into the audit plan and avoid duplication of testing activities.
    • Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership teams (including the Board of Directors).
    • Secure management action plans for remediation and monitor remediation progress and timeliness.
    • Perform outreach and maintain collaborative working relationships with business partners.
    • Invest in understanding the business to better identify areas of need and opportunities to advise.
    • Research and stay current on applicable regulatory requirements and emerging trends and best practices.  

    Requirements
    What it takes to succeed at this role:

    • Bachelor’s degree. 
    • 8+ years of audit and project management experience within an Internal Audit function and/or as part of an accounting/consulting firm.
    • Experience in leading an Internal Audit geo, either at a global or regional level.
    • Experience in leading an Internal Audit regulatory compliance subject matter domain/pillar.
    • Experience in payment services, banking and/or financial services and associated regulatory compliance.
    • Technical auditing skills and knowledge of relevant professional and auditing standards.
    • Experience with performing risk assessments and leveraging to prioritize workstreams.  
    • Ability to discuss complex issues with any level of management and influence perspectives.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report positioning and clarity.
    • CAMS and/or other relevant certifications.
    • CPA, CIA or CISA certification

    • As a Key Accounts Manager, you'll be entrusted with a portfolio of some of our fastest-growing customers from different sectors, across multiple countries.

    • You'll own some of our most important customer relationships, and lead both day-to-day conversations as well as high level strategic discussions.

    • We're also looking for a teammate who delights in learning everything there is to know about entire sectors. To best support your portfolio of assigned companies, you'll need a deep understanding of their specific business needs as well as their broader industry.
    • You'll research the various sectors within which your portfolio companies operate to inform your recommendations for how these companies can thrive.
    • Key Accounts Managers work with literally every team at Paystack. You'll serve as an important link between departments to ensure that all parts of the company are working in sync to provide the best possible experience for our merchants and their customers.
    • You'll have visibility into what’s happening across the entire company, so you’ll need to be a sharp, articulate problem-solver capable of the significant responsibilities entrusted to you.
    • This is a remote role (the entire company is working remotely during the pandemic) and successful candidates should be located within the GMT -3 to GMT +3 timezones. When it's safer to travel, the role will require occasional travel to Lagos, Nigeria at least four times a year.

    What You'll Be Doing
    You'll:

    • Build long-term relationships with your contacts at mid-market and enterprise companies and help them understand how to best leverage Paystack's powerful product suite to meet their business objectives
    • Develop account plans for winning and expanding business within your portfolio of accounts
    • Upsell Paystack's suite of products to your portfolio of accounts
    • Analyse internal and external datasets to gain insights for various uses
    • Research various sectors to better understand the competitive landscape of those industries, as well as both the threats and opportunities available to your portfolio companies
    • Solve tricky tier 2 support issues escalated by businesses in your portfolio
    • Represent Paystack at industry events, fairs, webinars, and demos
    • Serve on one or more Product teams, using your insights from the field to inform product prioritization and product development

    What it takes to succeed at this role
    You:

    • Have a sophisticated commercial sense and are able to quickly understand the underlying drivers and strategy of our customers' businesses
    • Have an aptitude for identifying upsell opportunities, and closing them
    • Are a strong communicator: you can write and speak clearly and compellingly, and understand how to explain complex issues to different audiences
    • Have experience in a client-facing role, preferably at a technology company, with a track record of top performance
    • Have a strong sense of ownership: you can be relied on to solve problems end to end, while managing all stakeholders involved, and proactively providing timely feedback.

    • Are fluent in French or Mandarin.

    We'll trust you to

    • Solve problems for Paystack merchants and our merchants' customers via email, phone, live chat, social media, and in person
    • Process routine merchant requests such as business activation requests.
    • Work with assigned Product Teams to deeply understand and improve some aspect of Paystack's suite of products
    • Update the self-serve Help Desk knowledge base so that merchant's can get answers quickly
    • Escalate transaction issues to and liaise with external partners such as banks for resolution
    • Support Key Account Managers to meet the needs of our largest merchants
    • Highlight ideas on how to improve the product and better serve businesses and their customers
    • Represent Paystack at self-hosted and external events
