The Business Development Officer (IELTS) plays a pivotal role within the IELTS Business Development team by spearheading initiatives to expand our market presence and deepen engagement with key educational partners in Lagos, Nigeria. This role demands strategic planning and the ability to build and maintain robust relationships with schools, universities, language centres, and other stakeholders who facilitate international education pathways.
The ideal candidate will actively identify and pursue business opportunities to promote IELTS testing services, contribute to revenue growth, and enhance brand visibility. This person will act as a knowledgeable ambassador for the IELTS brand, communicating its value proposition effectively while collaborating cross-functionally with internal teams to align business development strategies with broader organisational goals.
Success in this position requires a proactive approach, excellent communication and negotiation skills, and a keen understanding of the education sector landscape within Nigeria.
Key accountabilities
Develop and implement targeted business development plans to grow IELTS testing uptake in Lagos and surrounding areas.
Establish and nurture strong, professional relationships with educational institutions, corporate partners, and relevant stakeholders to create collaborative opportunities.
Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor activity, and emerging customer needs to inform strategic decisions.
Organise and participate in promotional events, seminars, and workshops to increase awareness and engagement with IELTS offerings.
Collaborate with marketing and operational teams to ensure successful execution of campaigns and seamless service delivery to clients.
Monitor performance metrics and prepare regular reports detailing achievements, challenges, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
Provide expert advice and support to partner organisations regarding IELTS testing products, registration processes, and test preparation resources.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders to develop customised solutions that address client-specific requirements, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Education, or a related field.
Proven experience in business development, sales, or account management within the education or testing sector is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of the international education environment and familiarity with English language testing systems, particularly IELTS, is advantageous.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
Demonstrated capability in planning and executing business development strategies that yield measurable outcomes.
Ability to analyse market data and adapt approaches to meet dynamic business needs and competitive challenges.
Self-motivated with a results-driven mindset and a commitment to achieving targets within a collaborative team environment.
Proficiency in digital tools and CRM software to manage leads, track progress, and maintain client engagement records.
Willingness to travel locally and participate in events beyond the primary location to support business expansion efforts.
