    About the Role

    James Hope University seeks candidates with vision, proven academic distinction, managerial ability and integrity. The individual has the ability to develop linkages with external communities to meet the emerging needs of the University and engender the cooperation and loyalty of staff and students of the University.

    • The Vice Chancellor is the principal academic and administrative officer of the University. He chairs the council of the university, and the finance committee of the council.
    • The Vice Chancellor is expected to resume in the 3rd quarter of 2022.
    • Represents James Hope University to a variety of external constituencies including, but not limited to, civic leaders, volunteers, donors, and alumni.
    • Seek academic and non-academic partnerships with high-ranking international educational institutions prior to commencement of the postgraduate school in September 2023
    • Provides leadership in creating and maintaining academic standards and policies and oversee academic planning, academic program review, and curriculum development, especially as this is the first year of operation.
    • Serves as the principal assistant and advisor to the Chancellor in all academic matters.
    • Serves as the senior advisor to the Chancellor on a wide range of issues, including long range planning, development and implementation of programs designed to enhance understanding of the University among public and private constituencies;
    • Supervising budgeting and resource allocation by developing budgetary strategies for each university departments, oversees and administers the allocation of funds within and among the department and develops mechanisms to facilitate effective financial performance and accountability.
    • Develops, maintains and enhances effective working relationships with key executive staff in the Office of the President, as well as with senior administrative and academic leadership of various colleges.
    • Responsible for directing and executing an ambitious fundraising agenda and an integrated external relations program;
    • Participate in recruitment of academic and non-academic staff.

    Requirements

    The Candidate

    • The person for the post of Vice-Chancellor of James Hope University, Lagos, is required to possess a good University education from a recognized University and should be a proven manager of human and material resources.

    Specifically, the candidate is expected to:

    • Be a highly distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor (in Social sciences) of not less than eight (8) years’ experience on that rank, with ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for the University community;
    • Be able to command the respect of the national and international academic communities through his/her track records;
    • Possess the ability to sustain harmony among the Board of Trustees, Council Administration, Staff and Students on the one hand, and between the University and the host communities on the other hand;
    • Be a very resourceful personality with initiative, vision, and drive for sustaining the accelerated pace of development of the University, even under financial and other challenging constraints;
    • Be a person of high probity and personal integrity;
    • Be someone who appreciates, respects, and promotes merit without fear or favour even under pressure;
    • Enjoy excellent physical and mental health, and be prepared to work under considerable pressure.
    • He must also be able to relate well with the external public of the University.
    • Possessing the social and emotional skills to attract benefaction for both the physical and academic development of the institution will be an advantage. Also, the candidate must possess a clear vision of the development of the University during his tenure which must be clearly stated in the Curriculum Vitae CV to be submitted.
    • Ability and skill to carry the Proprietor, staff and students along for successful achievement of the goals of the institution are qualities also expected from the candidate.
    • Demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills and possess the ability to strengthen the bridges between staff, students, other members of the University community and the University’s stake holders;
    • Exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract much needed funds and mobilize other resources for the development of the University.
    • Have demonstrable ability to establish and maintain partnerships with local and international governmental and non-governmental agencies.
