A leading infrastructure development consortium delivering large-scale, lender-aligned projects seeks to engage a Social Safeguard Specialist to strengthen compliance, field systems, and community risk management.
This is a Lagos-based consultancy (retainer) requiring physical presence several days per week and travel to project sites as needed.

Role Overview
The Specialist will support the Community Relations, Social & HSE structure, working closely with field teams to ensure alignment with IFC Performance Standards and/or World Bank ESF requirements across projects.
This role demands practical field competence, structured documentation discipline, data-driven reporting, and the ability to set up working safeguard systems — not just advise on them.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation and monitoring of RAPs and Livelihood Restoration Programs
- Strengthen stakeholder engagement frameworks aligned with international lender standards
- Provide technical oversight of Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM)
- Conduct social risk audits and compliance gap assessments
- Lead social data collection, KPI tracking, and reporting
- Prepare lender-ready documentation and monitoring reports
- Conduct field visits to project locations to assess, train, and establish systems
- Build capacity of CLO's and CAA teams through structured trainings and checklists
- Advise on conflict mitigation and community mediation strategies
- Support social and environmental studies where required
- Lead or coordinate consultancy-level safeguard activities
- Multilingual capability and strong administrative/data management skills are an advantage.
Candidate Profile
- 3–6 years demonstrable experience in social safeguards within infrastructure, transport, energy, coastal, or similar projects
- Direct working exposure to IFC Performance Standards and/or World Bank ESF implementation
- Experience with RAPs, stakeholder engagement plans, and GRM systems
- Experience conducting social baseline or impact studies
- Strong report writing and documentation discipline
- Proven field experience in sensitive community environments
- Ability to train teams and establish safeguard structures
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Environmental Management, Law, or related field
- High ethical standards and discretion
