Senior Journalism Team Manager at BBC

Role Responsibility

As the leader of a multi-disciplinary digital journalism team in Lagos, you'll have the unique opportunity to inspire and drive innovation. With a team of news journalists, designers, software developers, and social media specialists working across 12 African language services, your aim is to create original and groundbreaking content that reaches 111 million people in Africa. Your focus will be on underserved audiences, including young and female audiences, and you'll be responsible for developing new forms of digital storytelling and journalism.

• Experience leading a digital editorial team and producing high impact digital content
• Extensive journalism experience in digital production
• Experience in project management with tight deadlines
• A high standard of editorial judgment and writing ability in flawless English
• A thorough knowledge of African news and international current affairs
• Appreciation and demonstration of BBC values
• Understanding of digital analytics and how they can be used to improve output and drive change
• Knowledge of digital platforms and  the key target BBC audiences
• Ability to work well with other teams, producers, and reporters.

As the ideal candidate for this role, you'll need to:

• Bring a wealth of experience to the table, with a senior journalistic background and in-depth knowledge of African news and international current affairs
• Be a skilled team leader with a talent for creating an inclusive workplace
• Have impeccable command of English, both written and spoken, and a track record of accuracy, impartiality, and sound editorial judgment
• Be an expert in digital analytics and Africa's digital market, with a keen understanding of how to leverage these tools to improve output and drive change
• Have experience in long-form digital video production, and features and investigations, which would be a distinct advantage.
