    SEN / Guidance and Counseling Teacher

    Purpose

    • Whole-school teaching and learning responsibility in the area of SEN/ G&C Inclusion.

    Responsibilities
    Teaching and learning:

    • Would possess the professional training and demonstrates those skills needed for his/her guidance and counseling responsibilities.
    • Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for SEN learners.
    • The implementation of a counseling program.
    • Monitor teaching and learning activities to meet the needs of SEN learners.
    • To facilitate the school’s planning and placement of his/her students and assists in the planning for post-secondary school interests.
    • To perform professional responsibilities necessary for the maintenance of the school’s educational environment.
    • To maintain pertinent student's personal records and interpret those in an ethical manner.
    • Promote Inclusion best practice and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school
    • Assists in the coordination of career/occupational domain by supporting students, career days, shadowing experiences, and mentorships.
    • Assists teachers in the implementation of special service programs and the mainstreaming of special service students.

    Recording and assessment:

    • Set targets for raising achievement among SEN learners and other groups as appropriate.
    • Collect and interpret specialist assessment and performance data and share with other staff as appropriate.
    • Set up systems for identifying SEN, and assessing and reviewing SEN provision. This includes creating and monitoring Individual Educational Plans (IEPs), provision maps with class teachers.
    • Update the Principal and Directors on the effectiveness of provision for SEN children.
    • Keep parents informed about their child's progress through individual meetings and at parents’ meetings.
    • Keeps accurate records in all facets of the guidance program.
    • Attends professional conferences, seminars, and earns additional credit to stay current with contemporary issues in the area of guidance.
    • Assist the Exams Officer in making applications for additional support, time and/or specific papers for the end of Key Stage assessments.
    • Maintain SEN register.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of provision.

    Other responsibilities:

    • To willingly undertake any reasonable task requested by the Principal from time to time to support the safeguarding of staff and learners.
    • To be willing to undertake the role of Designated Child Protection Co-ordinator.

    Requirements

    • Candidates should possess a B.Sc / HND qualification with at least 5 years work experience.
