    Secondary Student Support Teacher

    Qualifications/Profile:

    Qualification & Background

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
    • Candidates must have experience as a lead or associate teacher in a progressive school setting
    • Certification in special education
    • International Certification
    • Experience serving in an international school that is the “hub of the community” would be an added advantage
    • Knowledge Base Knowledge and understanding of: Child development: the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of children.
    • High-impact research-based interventions such as Orton-Gillingham approaches to literacy, Numicon math, and Visualizing and Verbalizing, etc.
    • Knowledge of screening tools for admissions and assessments relevant to special education and EAL (e.g. MAP, WIDA, DIBELS, etc.).
    • Knowledge of learning disabilities and learning disorders.
    • Ability to develop strong partnerships with parents in a multicultural setting.
    • Child protection and safeguarding practices.
    • Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
    • Skills and Aptitude Exceptional verbal, written, and communication skills.
    • IT skills; ability to use technology applications that enhance learning, communication, and school improvement efforts.
    • Commitment to inclusion and ensuring that students feel a sense of belonging.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction (scaffolding, grouping practices, choice, etc.) in order to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
    • Ability to develop and implement Individual Learning Plans including collecting data to measure progress.
    • Ability to interpret educational psychological assessments and academic assessments.
    • Ability to collaborate with teachers and empower them to feel capable of meeting the needs of all students within their class.
    • Ability to provide feedback that is targeted, timely, and actionable.
    • Comfort with multiple perspectives and their place within the classroom and community.
    • Results-oriented, with demonstrated skill in using data to inform teaching and learning.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to relate to AISL stakeholders, such as students, colleagues, parents.
    • Ability to organize and run MTSS meetings with teachers.
    • Analyze data and provide support with interventions.
    • Ability to organize confidential student information.
    • Comfort with the uncertainty and ambiguity in the developing world.
    • Personal Qualities Lifelong learner with a growth mindset.
    • Empathetic, friendly, and genuine communicator.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Planning:

    • Individualized lessons for each targeted intervention.
    • Write Individualized Learning Plans.
    • Lead MTSS meetings.
    • Collect and analyze data.
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers.
    • Maintain positive communication with parents about student learning.
    • Set individualized goals for students .

    Instruction

    • Utilize research-based instructional strategies to deliver purposeful, differentiated
    • instruction that engages students and meets diverse learning needs.
    • Use a variety of technology tools to support instruction, integrating student technology skill development with content learning.

    Assessment

    • Conduct bi-weekly progress monitoring on goal areas.
    • Make adjustments to interventions based on goal progress.
    • Maintain accurate student records and provide regular reports on individual student progress and performance.

    Learning Environment

    • Create a learning environment that is attractive, comfortable, safe, and welcoming.
    • Use resources, routines, and procedures to foster a purposeful, engaging student-centered learning environment.
    • Implement an effective classroom management system that is based on the AISL Core Values.

    Professionalism

    • Support the future readiness of our students by designing and delivering a modern, relevant, and culturally responsive curriculum.
    • Share in the overall responsibility for the academic progress, personal development, health and safety, discipline and well-being of all students.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to share, reflect on, and improve classroom practice.
    • Seek professional learning opportunities aligned with professional and school goals.
    • Serve on working groups and committees designed to support the school’s continuous improvement.

    • Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with those normally associated with the position of a teacher.

    Terms of Employment

    • Salary and benefits package. Work calendar, contract terms, salary, and benefits shall be determined based on certification and experience.
    • Performance Evaluation
    • The Student Support Services Director will evaluate the job performance of the teacher annually in accordance with AISL Board Policy.
