    College of Agriculture, Lafia was established in 1977 under the then ministry of Agriculture, Jos, Plateau State as a Training School. In view of the change of Status of the College of Agriculture to College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, the need for additional Departments and Programmes becomes imperative.

    Rector

    Duties

    • The Rector serves as the Chief Academic, Administrative, and Accounting Officer of the College, with the authority to exercise general control over both staff and students.
    • They are responsible for maintaining discipline within the College, under the oversight of the Governing Council.
    • The Rector holds a position as one of the Principal Officers of the College. In addition to demonstrated management and leadership experience, the successful candidate must exhibit a genuine passion for academic pursuits and possess credibility.

    Academic Qualifications and Qualities

    • Candidates for this position must meet the following qualifications and possess the specified qualities:
    • Hold a Doctorate (Ph.D.) Degree from a recognized institution in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic sector or fulfill any requirements outlined in the scheme of service for the appointment of a Chief Lecturer.
    • Have a minimum of a Second-class Lower Division Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) with lower credit in a discipline offered in the Polytechnic Sector from a recognized institution.
    • Possess a minimum of seventeen (17) years of teaching experience in tertiary institutions, with at least ten (10) years gained in a Polytechnic or similar Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution.
    • Hold the position of Chief Lecturer from the Polytechnic Sector, with no less than five (5) years of experience in the role.
    • Be under the age of fifty-nine (59) as of the 16th of May, 2023, when the vacancy arose.
    • Demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative, and creativity in policy formulation, as well as exhibit good human relations and positive managerial attributes.
    • Provide evidence of membership in professional bodies recognized by the Federal Government.
    • Present evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals and a history of delivering invited papers at educational conferences, seminars, and workshops.
    • Show an ability to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic.
    • Possess initiative, vision, and the capacity to sustain the accelerated pace of the Polytechnic's development, even in the face of financial and other challenging constraints.
    • Not harbor tendencies to pursue racial, gender, political, religious, or other sectional interests.
    • Maintain a morally sound character, proven integrity, and freedom from financial embarrassment.
    • Be physically and mentally fit, as substantiated by a report from a Government Hospital.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

    Terms of Appointment and Conditions of Service

    • The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years in line with existing provisions.
    • The salary is consolidated, and the appointee shall enjoy any other benefits attached to the position of a Principal Officer of the Polytechnic as approved by the State Government.

    • Academic/Scholarly publications.
    • Previous Employers and Posts held with dates.
    • Present Employment, to include status, duties, and any other relevant experience.
    • Statement of own vision for the Polytechnic (20 copies) for 5 years.
    • Other activities outside current employment.
    • Names and Address of Three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational, and Personal) who are to forward Confidential Reports directly to the Registrar, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, P.M.B 33 Lafia, Nasarawa State. Such referees should be able to attest to the candidate's claim to high academic and managerial capabilities as well as to the candidate's notable uprightness.
