    QHSSE Associate

    Job Description
    General:

    • Responsible for all environmental & safety permit application renewals for existing assets as well as new permit applications for new projects.
    • Overall responsibility for advising the top management on all applicable QHSSE legislations and monitoring compliance.
    • Overall responsibility for gaining and maintaining approvals to ISO 9001, 14001 and any additional applicable accreditations.
    • Managing and maintaining environmental compliance at both the Head Office and Site levels by ensuring that the required permits are acquired and that the permit conditions (e.g. sampling, recordkeeping) are met.
    • Manage and responsible for the activities of the Emergency Response Team and Incident Command System.
    • Be the owner of Root Cause Analysis, Incident Reports, and Summary statistics; follow through on closure of action items identified in incident reports.
    • Manage the evaluation of all materials prior to storage or transfer for safety, health, environmental and permit compliance issues.
    • Support in driving “Best Practices” across the business. Once a “Best Practice” has been identified, ensure that the practice is visible nationally and to another subsidiary.
    • Support in negotiating solutions, resolve conflicts and provide solutions in the best interest of HUSK Power Systems, and our clients and employees across potential mini grid locations.
    • Understand the priorities of the country operations and support the Country Team when necessary
    • Provide requisite support on building and aligning various company processes and policies according to global best practices.
    • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

    QHSSE Management:

    • Develop and Implement policies, procedures, risk management programs, controls, and measures.
    • Overall responsibility for customer & stakeholder QHSSE management.
    • Preparation, implementation and application of the overall QHSSE program for Husk Nigeria.
    • Ensure that all audits of critical activities and internal processes are managed so as to minimize possible risks.
    • Ensure roll out and proper implementation of Behavioral Safety Programs and other relevant safety initiatives across all locations.
    • Manage the compilation and ongoing QHSSE procedures and plans specific to the needs of the organization and review, monitor, analyze, and report QHSSE statistics, objectives, and targets for business improvement.

    Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Support community/stakeholder engagement activities during project development and QHSSE activities.
    • Maintaining accurate and timely processing of environmental permits, licenses, and documents by managing relationships with government agencies along with supporting consultants and vendors.
    • Manage environmental program including all applicable regulations and corporate requirements as a minimum.

    Business Growth:

    • Support the overall Country targets for ensuring zero incident during project activities.
    • Provide updates, as and when required, on QHSSE activities.
    • Provide inputs to QHSSE policies including existing and new policies.
    • Provide updates on adherence to QHSSE policies as well as possible need for policy reviews.
    • Motivate, coach, and encourage all personnel in QHSSE matters.
    • Drive QHSSE training within the Company.

    Job Requirements
    Does this sound like you?

    • Graduate from a leading institution with a related degree in Engineering or Sciences. Post-graduate degree and/or related professional qualifications considered a positive.
    • Must have 2-5 years of experience within the renewable energy sector supporting project development and QHSSE activities.
    • Must have deep industry knowledge and be able to provide relevant inputs on optimizing delivery of project activities
    • Must have a clear understanding of what it takes and means to sell ‘power’ for business operations to clients
    • Familiarity with relevant software.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills are required
    • A clearly defined strategic thought process and a continuous improvement mindset
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent people skills, able to manage, motivate and discipline if necessary.
    • This position requires risk analysis, critical thinking and the ability to provide solutions to the benefit of the company, and projects.
    • Ability to influence through data and business analysis
    • Operationally focused; detailed oriented but able to grasp big picture
    • Excellent skills with MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and project management tools (MS Project, Asana, Slack etc.)
    • Most importantly, candidate must fit company spirit where people work smart, play hard, have fun and are dedicated to success
    • Ability to drive a vehicle during the normal course of business. Must possess a driver’s license, maintain a clean driving record with the ability to pass a driving background check.

    Physical Demands:

    • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body
    • Could work in outdoor weather conditions at certain times
    • Have adequate visual and hearing acuity to follow instructions; and determine accuracy of the work assigned
    • Ability to work in rural, peri-urban locations as required
