    Protection Officer

    • The Protection Officer will support the implementation of protection activities under POWIB’s humanitarian and development programs. The position aims to promote the safety, dignity, and rights of affected persons through protection monitoring, case management, capacity building, and community-based protection initiatives. The ideal candidate should have strong technical knowledge of protection principles, GBV prevention and response, child protection, and inclusion approaches, with proven experience in community engagement and inter-agency coordination.

    Key Responsibilities

    Protection Implementation and Case Management

    • Conduct protection assessments, identify at-risk individuals, and provide timely and appropriate case management services in line with international standards.
    • Implement individualized protection response plans ensuring confidentiality, safety, and survivor-centered approaches.
    • Refer cases requiring specialized services to appropriate actors and follow up to ensure effective service delivery.
    • Monitor, document, and report protection concerns and trends to inform program design and advocacy.

    Community Engagement and Awareness

    • Facilitate awareness sessions and community dialogues on protection risks, rights, and available services.
    • Support the establishment and capacity-building of Community-Based Protection Committees.
    • Strengthen community feedback and complaints mechanisms to enhance accountability and participation.
    • Identify and support community-driven protection solutions, especially for women, children, and persons with disabilities.

    Coordination and Networking

    • Participate in inter-agency protection, GBV, and child protection coordination meetings.
    • Liaise with local authorities, humanitarian partners, and community structures to strengthen referral pathways and service delivery.
    • Support the development of partnerships and maintain strong communication with stakeholders to ensure a holistic protection response.

    Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

    • Collect, analyze, and report protection data using POWIB-approved tools and templates.
    • Contribute to donor reports, situation analyses, and program reviews.
    • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and secure case files and protection databases.
    • Support monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring data confidentiality and ethical standards are maintained.

    Capacity Building and Staff Support

    • Facilitate training sessions for staff, volunteers, and partners on protection principles, safeguarding, and reporting mechanisms.
    • Provide ongoing technical guidance and mentorship to field staff and community focal points.
    • Contribute to the development and updating of protection tools, SOPs, and guidelines.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, sociology, Law, Human Rights, or a related field. A master’s degree is an added advantage.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection programming within humanitarian or development settings.
    • Strong understanding of protection principles, GBV prevention and response, and child protection standards.
    • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and communication skills.
    • Fluency in English and Hausa (Kanuri languages are an asset).
    • Proven experience working in conflict or post-conflict contexts.
