    Protection / Gender Assistant

    Location: Nganzai / Konduga, Borno

    Job Summary

    • The Protection and Gender Assistant has a dual role of implementing the WFP Protection and Gender programme interventions, as well as ensuring protection and gender mainstreaming in the programme in the settlement.
    • S/he will be responsible for initiating action in the areas of protection and gender, identify and deal appropriately with existing and emerging child protection and gender gaps/issues.
    • To provide technical support in relation to relevant protection and gender standards; mainstream, protection and gender in all food programming, and ensure adherence to protection minimum standards in humanitarian action (SPHERE Standards) and principles as well as the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Implementation of protection and SGBV standards at settlement level
    • Ensure adequate documentation of daily protection and SGBV incidents within the food programme,
    • Strengthen protection mechanisms in the Food programme, including a proper data management at settlement/ District level.
    • Attend all food/Cash distributions to support field-based protection and gender activities, monitor and report on emerging/changing protection and gender related issues;
    • Establish a feedback and complaints mechanisms on SGBV and Child protection across the settlement. This will include documenting all SGBV cases reported and contributing to the SGBV database/information management system at district level.
    • Compile and submit quality reports to IDS/Protection & Gender officer as directed. Ensure that all reports are highly accurate, comprehensive, well documented and will guarantee the credibility of the program.
    • Networking and creating linkages with protection partners in settlements for support in implementation
    • Engage with all staff, partners and stakeholders on protection minimum standards in humanitarian action, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse/Code of Conduct and monitor for compliance at settlement level.
    • Represent IDS at the settlement monthly gender and any protection working groups hosted by lead protection Partner in the settlement to share progress, challenges and appropriate follow up plans.
    • Create a referral pathway for protection cases and follow-up of these cases.
    • Coordinate referrals and reporting internally and externally, and ensure proper follow up of documented incidents at settlement level.
    • Ensuring compliance to Protection and SGBV standards of operation and other guidelines at each FDP of the settlement assigned.
    • Promote awareness/education on SGBV standard operating procedure (SOP) and protection minimum standards through pre-distribution food and cash meetings.
    • Conduct Staff, Volunteers, community & stake holders’ education and dialogue for behaviour change/policy enforcement at settlement level through community dialogue.
    • Conduct capacity building sessions for staff, Volunteers and community-based structures on protection and gender main streaming, including prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Code of Conduct.
    • Coordinate and facilitate communities’ meetings and dialogues with stakeholders on SGBV& Child protection issues to develop action plans.
    • Disseminate Information and Education Communication materials on SGBV and Child protection.
    • Regularly consult with beneficiaries, to receive feedback regarding the programme commitments and staff conduct.

    Qualifications, Skills and Experience

    • The applicant for the World Vision Protection and Gender Assistant job placement should preferably hold a university degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Human Rights or relevant field. Certificate courses in IASC Guidelines and key training packages related to protection.
    • Three years of experience working in child protection and gender development programming, preferably in fragile contexts. Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
    • Ability to communicate and work with beneficiary communities, government and stakeholders at the district level
    • Experience in training and community consultation highly desired
    • Good understanding of monitoring and evaluation processes
    • Good networking and collaboration skills
    • Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and negotiate, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
    • Computer literate.
