Overview
A Protection in Education in Emergencies (EIE) Team Lead is a senior humanitarian professional responsible for leading and coordinating programs that provide quality learning opportunities for children in crises while also integrating crucial child protection measures. This role requires expertise in both education and child protection in humanitarian settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Program Leadership & Management: Provide overall leadership for the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of integrated EiE and child protection programs. This includes ensuring project objectives are met on time and within budget.
- Integration of Services: Ensure that education activities provide both physical, psychosocial, and cognitive protection, and build on existing community protection capacities. This involves close collaboration with Child Protection colleagues and relevant clusters/areas of responsibility (AoR).
- Coordination & Representation: Work with various stakeholders including local partners, government agencies, donors, and other NGOs. This includes actively participating in coordination meetings and working groups, such as the Global Education Cluster (GEC) and the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (CP AoR).
- Technical Guidance & Capacity Building: Provide technical advice, mentorship, and training to field staff and local partners on established inter-agency standards and best practices, such as the INEE Minimum Standards and the CPHA-EiE collaboration framework.
- Advocacy & Documentation: Lead advocacy efforts and support evidence gathering to highlight the importance of integrated programming and ensure children's needs are placed at the center of the humanitarian response.
- Safety & Well-being: Responsible for the health, well-being, and safety of the emergency staff, while adhering to organizational policies on child safeguarding and well-being.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 4-6 years of experience in education and protection in humanitarian settings, with proven experience managing teams and programs.
- Education: A university degree in education, social sciences, international relations, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Standards: In-depth understanding of key humanitarian standards and guidelines, including the INEE Minimum Standards for Education: Preparedness, Response, Recovery and the Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action guidelines.
- Leadership & Management: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams in challenging environments.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in English is essential, and knowledge of local languages in the operational context is often preferred.
