Project Manager / Executive Expert – Minerals & Mining at Aventa

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience advising on or managing large-scale mining or extractives projects (e.g., solid minerals, industrial minerals, artisanal mining formalization, or value chain development) with a focus on regulatory alignment, ESG compliance, and public-private partnership (PPP) structuring.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Strategy & Execution

• Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of mining and extractive sector projects in alignment with client and donor objectives.
• Oversee feasibility studies, value chain assessments, and investment opportunity development.
• Design and implement frameworks for mineral resource development, governance, and policy reform.
• Ensure full compliance with host country regulations, donor requirements, and international standards.

Stakeholder Engagement & Technical Advisory

• Serve as a senior advisor to government ministries, donor agencies, and private-sector investors.
• Lead stakeholder consultations, public forums, and technical workshops.
• Facilitate dialogue between regulators, mining operators, and communities.
• Support negotiation and structuring of investment or concession agreements.

Team Leadership & Cross-functional Coordination

• Supervise technical and non-technical teams (geologists, legal experts, environmental consultants, financial analysts).
• Coordinate with legal, financial, and engineering experts to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
• Mentor junior team members and build capacity within project teams and partner organizations.

Risk Management & ESG Compliance

• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks including environmental, social, and operational issues.
• Oversee the implementation of ESG frameworks and ensure alignment with global best practices (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, EITI, World Bank safeguards).
• Integrate sustainability and community impact considerations into project design and implementation.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Project Management, or related field.
• 7–12 years of relevant experience in consulting, project management, or advisory roles in the mining sector.
• Prior experience with a Big Four firm or leading international advisory firm is required.
• Experience managing or advising on donor-funded or PPP mining projects is a strong asset.

Technical & Analytical Skills

• Deep understanding of mining operations, regulatory frameworks, and value chains.
• Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Knowledge of Nigerian mining regulations and licensing processes.
• Familiarity with GIS, mineral rights mapping, and exploration reporting is an added advantage.

Certifications

• PMP, PRINCE2, or related project management certification preferred.
• Any ESG, EHS, or sustainability-related certification is an advantage.
